But until The Unquiet World no one has explained the forces that led to the Friend's unique movement and how it influenced the history of Yates County, western New York and the United States.No one has had access to Arnold James Potter's typescript The Life and Times of the Universal Friend, a biography of more than 900 pages, as a resource. This source was based on diaries, letters, memoranda, testimony from litigation, dream-books, original deeds, maps and a mass of other material inherited from his grandfather, James Brown Jr., the Friend's steward.
