This book is a theoretical examination of the relationship between the face, identity, photography, and temporality, focusing on the temporal episteme of selfie practice. Claire Raymond investigates how the selfie’s involvement with time and self emerges from capitalist ideologies of identity and time. The book leverages theories from Katharina Pistor, Jacques Lacan, Rögnvaldur Ingthorsson, and Hans Belting to explore the ways in which the selfie imposes a dominant ideology on subjectivity by manipulating the affect of time. The selfie is understood in contrast to the self-portrait. Artists discussed include James Tylor, Shelley Niro, Ellen Carey, Graham MacIndoe, and LaToya Ruby Frazier. The book will be of interest to scholars working in visual culture, history of photography, and critical theory. It will also appeal to scholars of philosophy and, in particular, of the intersection of aesthetic theory and theories of ontology, epistemology, and temporality.
Ego shaves the vibrancy-edges off of life, dulling life's inherent wonder, dampening one's love of humanity while concurrently dimming the beauty of the world. Self reinstates life's vibrant-glory as Self-consciousness re-recognizes its love for its own creation, and in doing so, falls deeper and deeper back in love with itSelf, ever-more enhancing the vibrancy of the mystery of life. Knowing the difference between who you are and what you have mistaken yourself to be eliminates the ever-fluctuating, life-fragmenting ego, leaving only a permanent aware-presence that re-illuminates the vibrant-wholeness of life that has always been - all to re-establish the eternal wondrous-awe that has not been witnessed since childhood. Love Outpouring is a gracious invitation from yourSelf to yourSelf to expose the ever-present happiness that is already inherent within You, so that you may experience-directly again the perplexing-awe of life. You have written yourSelf this book for the purpose of giving yourSelf the permission to fall back in love with yourSelf and allow yourSelf to unavoidably shine your love-light upon the world as brightly as possible ... the greatest gift you or anyone can share with humanity.

Many difficult scientific discovery tasks can only be solved in interactive ways, by combining intelligent computing techniques with intuitive and adaptive user interfaces. It is inevitable to use human intelligence in scientific discovery systems: human eyes can capture complex patterns and relationships, along with detecting the exceptional cases in a data set; the human brain can easily manipulate perceptions to make decisions. Ambient intelligence is about this kind of ubiquitous and autonomous human interaction with information. Scientific discovery is a process of creative perception and communication, dealing with questions like: how do we significantly reduce information while maintaining meaning, or how do we extract patterns from massive data and growing data resources. Originating from the SIGCHI Workshop on Ambient Intelligence for Scientific Discovery, this state-of-the-art survey is organized in three parts: new paradigms in scientific discovery, ambient cognition, and ambient intelligence systems. Many chapters share common features such as interaction, vision, language, and biomedicine.
The author when he was quite young 60 years ago programmed his mind to think like a computer in machine language. He made his thinking patterns in terms mostly in reasoning to be binary. This manual shows how he did it and has many pages by other scholars showing how to do it. Exercises for teaching children to do the same are included. He sold accounting computers after graduate school for what is now Unisys. When learning COBOL he pointed out Y2K the first day of instruction in 1969 to his zone manager.
