“Who do you say I am?” Matthew 16:15 In his insightful follow-up to the bestselling book, The Power of God’s Names, Dr. Tony Evans introduces you to Jesus in ways you may have never seen Him before. Jesus is anticipated from the very beginning of the Bible and is mentioned many times up until He finally arrives on the scene in Bethlehem—yet never in the Old Testament is He called Jesus. Rather, He has many names that reflect all the different aspects of His character. And there are even more names in the New Testament to explore as well! Both in-depth Scripture research and Dr. Evans’ signature storytelling style make The Power of Jesus’ Names a fascinating journey—you will get to know Him as Immanuel King Lamb of God Great High Priest Son of God and more. As you study the life and character of Jesus, you will enter into a deeper understanding of who He is and what He came to do for—and in—your life today.
We approach Raphael’s “Agony in the Garden” or Fra Angelico’s “Crucifixion” for their beauty and not primarily to learn about fifteenth-century fashion or even to decode the iconography. Yet the many books on the Song of Songs, whether they try to read the book as an ancient Near Eastern love song or a Christian allegory, miss the main point of this book: its aesthetic elements. “Aesthetics” is the appreciation of beauty. Aesthetics examines literary form as a response to content, the way poetics works with contents, the use of loaded semantic terms, even the sound created by words and what cognitive science tells us it does to listeners. This book uses the commentary format to accompany an individual’s reading of the Song of Songs, focusing on these neglected aspects of the text. It both reads the book as it is meant to be read and opens up a new vista on this magnificent biblical text.
This book is a daily devotional prayers and uplifting messages inspired by the ways and life of our Lord Jesus Christ, His prayer life and ministry—most especially in the book of Mark, which said, “Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed” (Mark 1:35). This book has been put together and designed to help all believers out there. I understand we all keep a busy schedule in our daily lives, but still, no matter how busy we might seem to be, we should not be too busy to pray, for it is said that a busy life makes prayer life hard, but a prayerful man makes a busy life easier. God is always expecting to hear from us to give us new word as we seek Him each day, for as a good father loves to talk to his children, so also God loves to talk to His children. Having said that, with the help of God, we have been able to put together this book to help believers keep God first in our daily lives, by reading one page per day to pray and commit our day unto God’s hand. My prayer is that we receive word from God each day as we read and pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.
