A translation of two important books on the symbolism of Numbers from a Martinist viewpoint, including 'On Numbers' by Louis-Claude de Saint-Martin, published posthumously in 1861, and The Science of Numbers by Papus (Dr. Gérard Encausse) published posthumously in 1934. Over 340 footnotes help to explain the sometimes complicated theosophy of this subject. The first time these have been made available in English.
A historical and interpretive study of three aspects of Western esotericism from the Renaissance to the twentieth century.
Papus' 1893 book on Magic was the first to bring together all the Grimoires into one book, and provide a clear path of study to perform the Solomonic Rites. He brings his scientific mind to argue that experimentation in the astral is just as important as scientific inquiry, as he takes us on a fascinating journey through late 19th Century France.
Covers every aspect of pagan, Jewish, and Christian religious discourses and phenomena traditionally labeled gnosticism, hermeticism, astrology, magic, the "occult sciences," esoteric religion, and more. Contains articles about the life and work of all the major personalities in the history of Gnosis and Western Esotericism, discussing their ideas, significance, and historical influence.

First translation into English of Louis-Claude de Saint-Martin's first book, originally published under the pseudonym of 'The Unknown Philosopher'. A book on spiritual philosophy, it sets forth the teachings of Martinez de Pasqually, and was published as an attack on the materialism which was spreading as part of the Enlightenment in France.
This seminal book on Martinism was written by Papus (Dr. Gérard Encausse) some twelve years after he founded the Ordre Martiniste in France. By then the Order had taken root and spread across Europe and the world. He gives an introduction to the three branches on Martinism's origins: the Elus Cohen of Martines de Pasqually, the Rectified Rite of Jean-Baptiste Willermoz, and the mystical Christian writings of Louis-Claude de Saint-Martin. He continues with a scathing analysis of the state of Freemasonry in France at the turn of the twentieth Century, and ends with the comment that Martinism would be an ideal organization to unite the esoteric societies of the world for three reasons: They have an existing global structure in place, there is no money - and therefore corruption - involved, and they have no interest in politics (a claim which could not be said of French Freemasonry). This is an important book in the history of Martinism. While some of Papus' comments are either incorrect in light of history, or blatantly propagandist, English-speaking Martinists will find this a valuable addition to their source documents.
An interdisciplinary study of the supernatural and the occult in fin-de-siècle France (1870-1914), the present volume examines the explosion of interest in devil-worship, magic and mysticism both from an historical perspective and through analysis of key literary works of the period.
This original book by Lazare Lenain is the source of many later books about the Shemhamephorash used by several Western esoteric currents, in particular the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn and Martinism. Published in 1823, it provided an early guide to the 72 Angels or Geniuses at a time when the Age of Enlightenment was carrying the torch of science and rationality. Reprinted by Papus, the wrote a Preface on behalf of the Ordre Kabbalistique de la Rose-Croix, it was reintroduced to the Western esoteric current. This current edition is the first translated into English, and contains a number of important Appendices, including several forms of angelic sigils and seals.
Now in a fully corrected edition, one of the true spiritual classics of the twentieth century. Published for the first time with an index and Cardinal Hans Urs von Balthasar’s afterword, this new English publication of Meditations on the Tarot is the landmark edition of one of the most important works of esoteric Christianity. Written anonymously and published posthumously, as was the author’s wish, the intention of this work is for the reader to find a relationship with the author in the spiritual dimensions of existence. The author wanted not to be thought of as a personality who lived from 1900 to 1973, but as a friend who is communicating with us from beyond the boundaries of ordinary life. Using the 22 major arcana of the tarot deck as a means to explore some of humanity’s most penetrating spiritual questions, Meditations on the Tarot has attracted an unprecedented range of praise from across the spiritual spectrum.
