Verity Holloway’s nineteenth-century cousin Thomas Holloway’s patent medicine empire was so ubiquitous, Charles Dickens commented that if you’d murdered someone with the name Holloway, you’d think their spirit had come back to torment you. Advertising as far away as the pyramids in Giza, it was said Holloway’s Ointment could cure lesions on a wooden leg. Bottling leftover cooking grease in the kitchen of his parents’ Cornish pub, Thomas’s dubious cure-alls made him one of the richest self-made men in England. Promising to save respectable Victorian invalids ‘FROM THE POINT OF DEATH’ (his capitals), the self-proclaimed ‘Professor’ Holloway used his millions to build the enormous Gothic Holloway College and Holloway Sanatorium for the insane. But Thomas was a man of contradictions. To his contemporaries, he was simultaneously ‘the greatest benefactor to ever live’ and no better than a general who led millions to their deaths. Aware of the uselessness of his own products, he believed the placebo effect was well worth the subterfuge and never ridiculed his customers. A ruthless businessman, he was deeply in love with his wife and cared for the education of young women. The Mighty Healer charts Thomas’s rise and the realization of his worst fear – that rival company Beechams would one day take him over – plus the very Victorian squabbling over his fortune by his respectable and not-so-respectable relations. It draws on primary and secondary sources to ground Thomas’s life in the social issues of the day, including women’s education, Victorian mental healthcare, contemporary accounts of debtors’ gaols, and of course the patent medicine trade of the mid-Victorian period; the people who took the medicine, and those who fiercely opposed it.

Twenty years of being hunted—by the O’Byrnes, who fear the prophecy, and by her kinsmen, who expect her to lead them against their oppressors. But Brenna is a trained and gifted healer, not a warrior queen. So she lives alone in the wilderness with only her pet wolf for company. When she rescues a man badly wounded from an ambush, she believes he may be the answer to her deep loneliness. Healing him comes as easy as loving him. But can their love overcome years of bitterness and greed…and bring peace and renewed faith to the shattered kingdom?
The debut novel from Verity Holloway, Pseudotooth is an adult take on 'portal fantasy', boldly tackling issues of trauma responses, social difference and our conflicting desires for purity and acceptance.Aisling Bloom is a young woman beset by unexplained blackouts, pseudo-seizures that have baffled both the doctors and her family. Sent to recuperate in the Suffolk countryside, she seeks solace in the work of William Blake and writing her journal, filling its pages with her visions of Feodor, an East Londoner haunted by his family's history back in Russia. The discovery of a Tudor priest hole and its disturbed former inhabitant lead Aisling into a meeting with the enigmatic Chase and on to an unfamiliar town where the rule of Our Friend is absolute and those deemed unfit and undesirable have a tendency to disappear into The Quiet...This bold new work of literary fantasy blurs the lines between dream and reality, asking troubling questions about those who society shuns, and why.

With each turn of the page he takes his readers through the ups and downs of the trying but exciting journey and delights them by depicting the varying prominent personalities of the recent and not so recent past with their applicable quotes. Dr. Quarshie ends with a road map charting his plans for increased contribution to global medicine. The setting is Wisconsin, New York, Georgia and Virginia, in that order, all in the United States. Essentials in Church History is a religious text by Joseph Fielding Smith. It presents the history of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, also known as Mormon history. An illuminating read for anyone interested.
Over the last twenty years there has been a great surge of interest in the healing ministry, yet this ferment of activity seems not to have been matched by an equally fresh or energetic study of healing in the New Testament, which ostensibly forms the basis, and is still claimed as supplying the inspiration for the 'revival' of this ministry. This work is the first, serious, critical study of healing in the New Testament as a discrete subject. Its purpose is to arrive at a clearer understanding of what Scripture actually tells us about healing; not what we imagine it says or hope that it might say, not what we may have been led to believe it says, nor indeed what we have sometimes been taught that it says, but what the sacred authors actually wrote, and more to the point, what they meant by what they wrote.
