My name is Pabi Ae. I forget. That’s what I do. So before I forget again, before these events of my life fade, turning from history in legend, I have committed them here to ink as best as I can. My tale happened not long ago, when the undying Phoenix Emperor still sat upon his throne, ruling his ever diminishing empire as if it would last forever. But the gods look down on all things forever, and they raised a personified storm to change this world. I served her, the Storm, Targa Tik, carried along in her wake as flotsam and jetsam washed up onto the shore. I was her maid, and my duty was to clean up her messes, ones measured in blood and immortal lives, but that’s not what I wanted. What I wanted was a boy of my own, some friendly shadows, and a real family. All I had to do was quit before she killed again.
Pabi once worked for the last great hero, Targa, who did great deeds while wielding an amazing sword, but now she’s dead. Unwittingly, she had been Targa’s final student, so everyone now looked upon her as Targa’s heir. What are they thinking? She can’t even wield a sword. She wanted any fate but this. When Pabi meets Scarab, she finds a mind unlike any that she’s ever encountered. He shakes her soul to its very foundations, treading deep into her faulty memories. He challenges her, his thoughts opening new pathways, a new sort of life, but she can only claim this if she dares the consequences. Will this psychotic save her or destroy her?
Pabi is used to acting on her own. She's a hard worker who gets things done, and she doesn't need anybody else getting underfoot. Given hard knocks, she takes them and gets back up. That's what it means to work for a verifiable hero who rides dragons and fights anything. When Pabi's boss sticks her with two other girls her own age, she finds her freedom trampled. One is a “miss perfect” dragon rider who seems to succeed at everything, and the other is a girl who invents magical contraptions. For a person whose main skill is getting lost in a crowd, having other people along really cramps her style. How did she get here? That’s a complicated story.
Pabi can memorize anything, but when her memory begins failing, she knows that her doom is upon her. If she doesn’t act, the scholar’s disease will wipe her mind and she will fade away as if she had never existed. Her only hope is the strange elf Scarab, the last practitioner of forbidden mind arts. If his plan works, she’ll restore herself, integrating herself into this here and this now. If she fails, she may become someone else all together. The only thing guaranteed is that nothing is guaranteed.

Dumi Rai is a Kiranti language spoken in Khotan district in the Everest zone of eastern Nepal. The Dumi speaking area is limited to five pancayats all abutting the Rava and Tap rivers near their confluence and upriver therefrom. The Dumi are now a minority in the area to which they are indigenous (constituting roughly a quarter of the population in Khotan district); retention is low and surviving speakers of Dumi are scarce. The World Ocean Assessment - or, to give its full title, The First Global Integrated Marine Assessment - is the outcome of the first cycle of the United Nations' Regular Process for Global Reporting and Assessment of the State of the Marine Environment, including Socioeconomic Aspects. The Assessment provides vital, scientifically-grounded bases for the consideration of ocean issues, including climate change, by governments, intergovernmental agencies, non-governmental agencies and all other stakeholders and policymakers involved in ocean affairs. Together with future assessments and related initiatives, it will support the implementation of the recently adopted 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, particularly its ocean-related goals. Moreover, it will also form an important reference text for marine science courses.
