The Magus, or Celestial Intelligencer; being a Complete System of Occult Philosophy is a handbook of the occult and ceremonial magic compiled by Francis Barrett and published in 1801. This book facilitated the modern revival of magic by making information from otherwise rare books readily available. It may have influenced novelist Edward Bulwer-Lytton and occultist Eliphas Levi. More controversially, it has been identified as an influence on Joseph Smith, Jr., founder of the Latter Day Saint movement, in Reed C. Durham, Jr.'s speech "Is There No Help for the Widow's Son?" Reproduction of 1801 Edition.

• Explores the schools of Solomonic magic around the world and works such as The Greater and Lesser Keys of Solomon the King and The Hygromancy of Solomon • Examines Solomon’s magical possessions, including his famous ring that gave him command over animals, weather, demons, genies, and djinns, as well as his amulets, remedies, exorcisms, and charms • Looks at the extensive presence of Solomon in folklore around the world, including in Armenia, Malaysia, Russia, Bulgaria, Morocco, India, and Egypt Looking at the Solomonic magical tradition and Solomon’s profound influence on esoteric traditions around the world, Claude Lecouteux reveals King Solomon not only as one of the great kings of prehistory but also as the ancient world’s foremost magician and magus. Examining the primary sources on Solomon, such as the Bible, the Koran, and the writings of Flavius Josephus, the author explores Solomon’s judgments, his explorations, his literary and scientific works (including an herbal), and his constructions beyond the eponymous temple, such as the copper city in Andalus built by the djinns and the baths of Sulayman. He also looks at Solomon’s magical possessions, such as his famous ring and the Philosopher’s Stone. The author examines the supernatural powers granted to Solomon by his ring, which he received from the angel Gabriel, including command over animals, weather, and demons, and explores in detail Solomon’s power over genies and djinns. Following the esoteric threads hidden within the primary sources on Solomon, Lecouteux reveals the work of Solomon the Magician, exploring his amulets, remedies, exorcisms, charms, and his influence on Arab and Western magic. Providing illustrations of sigils, talismans, and other magic symbols related to Solomon, the author examines the schools of Solomonic Folkloremagic and works such as The Greater and Lesser Keys of Solomon the King and The Hygromancy of Solomon. He then looks at the extensive presence of Solomon in folklore worldwide, including in Armenia, Israel, Malaysia, Eastern Europe, Russia, Morocco, India, Mongolia, and among the Abyssinians of Ethiopia and the Copts in Egypt. He also looks at Solomon’s role within the Bulgarian tradition from which the Cathars derived. Painting an in-depth portrait of Solomon the Magician-King, Lecouteux reveals how this legendary magus left a deep impression upon the occult, magical traditions, and philosophies of the ancient world that can still be felt to this day.

The Magus: Kundalini and the Golden Dawn is the culmination of my Spiritual journey through the Western Mystery Tradition after experiencing a full and sustained Kundalini awakening. Once I joined a secret and esoteric school called the Golden Dawn, I was introduced to Ceremonial Magick-a Spiritual Alchemy practice geared towards Chakra tuning and cleansing-whose ultimate purpose is personal transformation and Enlightenment. I have found that this sacred art of energy invocation not only alleviated the intense fear and anxiety I was left with after awakening Kundalini, but it furthered my Spiritual progression tenfold in a short period. As such, I dedicated myself to mastering the entire Golden Dawn system. After leading a Golden Dawn group in Toronto, Ontario, I left the organised system but continued to teach Ceremonial Magick to other Light Seekers. I realised that the world was missing a unified and comprehensive system of Magick that combines Eastern Spirituality and the Western Mysteries, whose presentation is clear and concise, without the usual cryptic occult connotations. What emerged is The Magus-a Universal science of energy that we all partake of as human beings. You don't need to be a part of a Magickal Order to get the full benefit of being initiated into the energies of our Solar System. Everything that can be gained from Ceremonial Magick practice can be done from the comfort of your home. If you dedicate ten minutes a day to this practice, you can advance substantially in your Spiritual evolution. Ceremonial Magick exercises in The Magus are presented as part of Spiritual Alchemy programs whose aim is to help you connect with your Higher Self and tap into your highest potential as a Spiritual human being. These programs go hand-in-hand with knowledge lectures on the Qabalah, the Five Elements, the Seven Chakras, Astrology, the Tarot, Divination, meditation, Hermetic Philosophy and Alchemy, the Christian and Egyptian Mysteries, Enochian Magic, and more. The Magus also contains a wealth of knowledge concerning the Kundalini from both Eastern and Western perspectives. As your connection with your Creator strengthens through the work in The Magus, your personal power will increase, enabling you to manifest the life you always wanted. By becoming the best version of yourself, you can be the hero of your own story and experience the joy and excitement of being alive. The end-game of The Magus is the completion of the Great Work and the expansion and unification of the individual consciousness with Cosmic Consciousness.
It is hard to overestimate the importance of the contribution made by Dame Frances Yates to the serious study of esotericism and the occult sciences. To her work can be attributed the contemporary understanding of the occult origins of much of Western scientific thinking, indeed of Western civilization itself. The Occult Philosophy of the Elizabethan Age was her last book, and in it she condensed many aspects of her wide learning to present a clear, penetrating, and, above all, accessible survey of the occult movements of the Renaissance, highlighting the work of John Dee, Giordano Bruno, and other key esoteric figures. The book is invaluable in illuminating the relationship between occultism and Renaissance thought, which in turn had a profound impact on the rise of science in the seventeenth century. Stunningly written and highly engaging, Yates' masterpiece is a must-read for anyone interested in the occult tradition.
This latest comprehensive work on Simon Magus lends new impetus to the investigation of Early Christianity and questions surrounding the origin and nature of Gnosticism. Major contributions of this study include: (1), a departure from the traditional exegesis of Acts 8, 5-24 (the first narrative source of Simon), and the later following reports of ancient Christian writers; (2), an overview of the literature of Graeco-Roman antiquity to determine the contribution of "magic" and "the Magoi" in the development of perceptions and descriptions of Simon; and (3), the inclusion of social science explanation models and modern estimations of "identity", in a creative approach to questions surrounding the phenomenon of Simon.
