Excerpt from The Lanthorn, 1907, Vol. 10 It is with pleasure that we present the name of Rev. Charles T. Aikens A. M., as President of Susquehanna University. He is a man full of hope and enthusiasm, true to his convictions, true to the principle of honor and right. His motto, Be good, is so well lived by him that no one can be in his presence without feeling that noble influence. He is a gentleman, kind and loving, vigorous and fearless. He enters into all the life of the college. His Speeches are neat and witty, always fitted to the occasion. To him the Students can ever point as a model, a generous-hearted, honest, noble - spirited man, one of whom we are justly proud and whom we admire. Then, too, our aim has been an annual by the Junior Class exclusively, and, with one exception, the work has been kept within those bounds. We have no apology to make. Our work is not perfect, but we have done our best. Criticism will come, and'we expect it. If it would not, we might think ourselves infallible and creatures of another world. Excerpt from The Lanthorn, 1897, Vol. 1 However, we selected a name and bravely set to work, determined to snatch odd moments from play and comfort (never from school work) to accomplish our purpose. That we have done so will soon appear; how well, we leave you to judge. We make no apologies. 'tis true we might have done better, but we desire to leave a margin for succeeding classes to work upon. Had we made it perfection, there would be no incentive to improve, and it would soon fall even from the position to which we might raise it.
