Traveling through Arizona, Roxy Doyle comes across a woman being pursued by multiple riders, intent on not only catching her, but possibly killing her. Roxy takes a hand, helps the woman hold off the riders and escape. Later, she discovers that the woman, Angela Blackthorne, has an unusual occupation for a female. She is a hangman—or hang “woman.” She has picked up that mantle from her father, who recently was killed to keep him from doing his job. Angela is intent on finishing her father’s task, as well as finding out who killed him. And simply because she likes Angela, and knows she’ll be drastically outnumbered in her efforts, Roxy decides to accompany her, essentially acting as a bodyguard. Both women ride to the next town together, knowing the odds will be against them, but determined to stay alive, and succeed.
Three women meet and bond over the fact that they have all “been with” Clint Adams, the Gunsmith. In fact, one—the youngest—explains that she has had a baby, and is now looking for Clint, to come back and be the baby’s father. The other two women agree to help her search. However, when they do manage to find Clint, while he remembers being with the two older women, he has no memory of the younger one. But he agrees to take the woman back to her child and help her find who the real father is. At the same time, the family of a man he killed after a poker game is on his trail. The father, uncles, brothers, and cousins are determined to take revenge. Will a distracted and outnumbered Gunsmith fall victim to their thirst for vengeance?
When there are a rash of stagecoach robberies between Colorado Springs and Denver, Clint is pressed into service by his friend, private detective Talbot Roper. When he gets to Colorado Springs Clint starts to suspect that the man behind it all might be a simple ticket clerk. But things are changing in town as a new police department is set to replace the longtime sheriff, a man who Clint thinks can help him solve the robberies. As it turns out, there is much more to these robberies that meets the eye, and Clint has to stay alive long enough to figure out who the ringleader is, and what is the ultimate goal.
John Brooker writes in his Introduction: "B westerns have always been part of my life. I decided ... to tour the US by Greyhound bus and try and track down some of my childhood heroes." From that and subsequent trips, Brooker began to write books, magazine columns, and even a TV series ("Movie Memories"). This book contains his interviews with the actors and other research on the B westerns. Fully illustrated.
One of my favorite comic strips is Bill Wattersons Calvin and Hobbes. Its based on the adventures and misadventures of six-year old Calvin and his stuffed tiger Hobbes. However, in Calvins mind Hobbes is the real deal, and the interactions between the two of them reflect that of a young boy and his living, breathing tiger friend. Calvins imagination is the stimulus of one of the most beloved, humorous and heart-warming comic strips of all time. Calvin is the antithesis of what is going on in the world today. Creativity and imagination seem to have taken a leave of absence recently. Movies and television shows are constantly being remade. New magazines look a lot like those already found on the newsstands. Television commercials are, for the most part sorely lacking in appeal. Radio commercials? Even worse: Same old song, same old story, same old same old. One of the things I love most about my grandson Krischan is his imagination Ive seen him invent an entire game using only a couple of sticks, a handful of rocks and an ant bed. Ive stood by his side as he saw and battled imaginary creatures so passionately I could have sworn I saw them too. Ive heard him create words for things that make so much more sense to me than the actual word he should be using. The boy has such a vivid imagination I make sure to pay close attention so I dont miss out on what he does or says next. He is, in a word Calvin. Coincidentally my nickname for him since the day he was born is Tiger. I have very single book chronicling the exploits of Calvin and Hobbes. Ive been saving them for Krischan so one day he can appreciate the magic Bill Watterson has created. I cant think of anyone better to pass the books along to, and hope Krischan will be eager to tear into them once he learns how to read. After he reads this book first, of course.
