A collection of childrens stories based on the videoville animals... What causes Matilda the hen to shoot up the Foxy Club? Aided by their friend Stinky Winky, Mewsli and J.S. Bach, the private detectives investigate and solve the case to the displeasure of Spotto, the lazy chief of the Videoville police. In 'The Owl Who Wasn't Very Bright' young Oliver Owl, inspired by Owlexandra, his new girl-friend, overcomes his usual incompetence to humiliate Tony Tawny Tornado Owl by planting him neatly in a basketball hoop. Morrey Monkey reads and acts out the story of how Dotty, the naughty young dinosaur, helps her uncle to trap the gigantic, deadly Ramborinctus. Morrey unexpectedly wins himself a new role in Mike Mudd's next film. How does the Wherewolf change from possibly becoming a werewolf to become the voice of Videoville Sat Nav? 'The Duel' sees the crucial contest in the Two Town Gala between Videoville and DVD Town, in which the arrogant Ronaldo Rhino, the mayor of DVD Town, takes on Videoville's studious Erwin Elephant. It climaxes in their amazing cycle race.
This fantastic edition to the Colin the Librarian series contains four new exciting stories. M.I. Spy Colin and Olivia meet the British spymaster F for Frank in the 1980s. Of course M accompanies them in an adventure in which Colin's grandad suddenly appears at the Russian Embassy in London, and leads them through a secret passage to the American Embassy. On the way M helps them to rescue an agent known as Yvon The Terrible, who may be able to help them to discover who the mole is in their ranks. M.I. Spy 2 A Caribbean adventure in which Colin and M help Frank and Perkins to recover some sunken treasure. They foil an attempt by a villainous Russian to steal it. At the same time they rescue Yvon The Terrible again, but there is still no sign of the mole hidden in their ranks. M.I. Spy 3 An adventure set in Paris, where Braine finally proves himself and with the help of Colin and M enables Yvon to be rescued yet again, and is instrumental in unearthing the mole in their midst. M has great fun on the Eiffel Tower. M.I. Spy 4 Colin and co thwart a conspiracy in the 1980s to destabilise the British colony of Hong Kong by flooding the city with counterfeit banknotes. M, invisible as ever, has a lot of fun catching the villains with the aid of a tube of superglue.
Arguably Colin's most exciting and dramatic adventure yet! In Ancient Egypt he foils a plot by the young pharaoh's evil uncle to turn him into a mummy while he is still alive. Colin in the guise of the god Anubis and seemingly floating in mid-air, for he is seated on M, the invisible, computer-generated emu’s back, orchestrates the young ruler’s awakening and arising from the open sarcophagus at his burial ceremony. This books also contains a collection of other stories
In September of 1893, Norwegian zoologist Fridtjof Nansen and a crew manned the schooner Fram, intending to drift, frozen in the Arctic pack-ice, to the North Pole. When it became clear that they would miss the pole, Nansen and his companion Hjalmar Johansen struck off by themselves. Racing the shrinking pack-ice, they attempted, by dog-sled, to go "farthest north." They survived a winter in a moss hut eating walruses and polar bears, and the public assumed they were dead. In the spring of 1896, after three years of trekking, and having made it to within four degrees of the pole, they returned to safety. Nansen's narrative stands with the best writing on polar exploration.
