David H. Keller, M.D. (1880-1966) was indeed a medical doctor (a psychiatrist -- and the first to write science fiction). He was an early proponent of H.P. Lovecraft and wrote a number of articles on Lovecraft's work, whose influence can be seen in some of his horror stories. Another influence was James Branch Cabell. This volume concentrates on Keller's fantasy and horror, but does include -- at the end of the book -- a few science-fiction and science-fantasy works which we obtained to late to include in the (already published) Golden Age of Science Fiction volume of his work. The Golden Age of Science Fiction MEGAPACKTM series focuses on unjustly forgotten science fiction writers. Horace B. Fyfe (1918-1997) was one. An engineer by trade, Fyfe also wrote a long string of popular science fiction and fantasy stories. He published extensively in genre magazines from his first appearance in "Astounding Science Fiction" (February 1940) until his last publication in "Analog" (January 1967). Sadly, Alzheimer's cut short his career, but his family stepped in to save his writing files, including more than 90 unpublished stories and an unpublished historical novel. Most of his unpublished works are in other genres, such as suspense or mainstream, but a few are lost gems, and we are delighted to present two previously unpublished tales here. Included in this volume: OPEN INVITATION PROTECTED SPECIES RANSOM WELCOME, STRANGERS! The "Golden Age of Science Fiction" MEGAPACKTM ebook anthologies are designed to introduce readers to classic science fiction writers who might otherwise be forgotten. Lester del Rey -- one of the all-time greats of the science fiction world -- had been well on his way to becoming forgotten before Wildside Press began its reprint program of his classic short fiction. This second volume of his collected short stories includes 10 more great science fiction stories, representing some of his finest science fiction work. Of special note are the stories "Evenson" (his contribution to Harlan Ellison's "Dangerous Visions" anthology) and the novella version of "Nerves" from ASTOUNDING SCIENCE FICTION (later expanded to novel length). Included are: WIND BETWEEN THE WORLDS EARTHBOUND DARK MISSION EVENSONG THE STARS LOOK DOWN THE STILL WATERS THE ONE-EYED MAN HABIT NERVES SPAWNING GROUND If you enjoy this book, search your favorite ebook store for "Wildside Press Megapack" to see the more than 170 other entries in the series, covering science fiction, modern authors, mysteries, westerns, classics, adventure stories, and much, much more!
William Campbell Gault (1910–1995) was an American writer. He wrote under his own name, as well as (among others) the pseudonyms Roney Scott, Larry Sternig, and Will Duke. He is probably best remembered for his sports fiction, particularly the young-readers’ novels he began publishing in the early 1960s. Gault was also an acclaimed mystery writer. He was not limited to sports and mysteries, though—he also wrote a substantial body of science fiction. (Admittedly, he did mix crime and sports into his science fiction!) We believe this volume is the largest collection of his fantastic work ever produced.
