Excerpt from The Geology of Lancaster County The proof was read during the continuance of the field work, in the summer and fall of 1878, at which time the greater part of the text was stereotyped. Owing to the arrest of further steps in the publication of the book, the plate proofs were laid aside by the author and not again taken in hand until a short time since. During this time the Chief Geologist personally redrew the main section along the Susquehanna river after a new plan, so that the details of structure, which are entirely by him, do not exactly accord with the text of the description in the chapter devoted to cross sections. Nor With the shape of curves, distance between dips, &c., &c., on my original section: but these changes affect the appearance more than the substantial information given by the map. It is very likely that some errors may have crept into the text or In dex, which are due to the lapse of time which intervened between the execution of the field work and the final prep aration of the book for its issue from the press.
