The day of Jumu'a (also known as Jumuah or Jummah) is the holiest of days in the Islamic week. This book describes this everything one needs to know about this day including its importance, history, and necessary religious rituals and practices.
Shock waves of indignation ran across the Muslim world following the recent publication of offensive and crude caricatures of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (may peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) in some parts of Europe. The un-informed, as ever, misled by the mullah gave in to public display of rage and rampant chaos ensued. Midst this confusion of an undeniably distressing time for all Muslims, spoke the voice of reason, calm and peace, precisely in line with the teachings of the 'prince of peace' himself, the Holy Prophet (may peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). This was the voice of Hazrat Khalifatul Masih V (may Allah be his Helper) that unfolded the reality of the Islamic ways and means to respond to injustice; calling for peace, reasoning, endeavour to enlighten the world with the power of the pen and ultimately to always put one's trust in sincere prayers. He delivered a series of five faith-inspiring and enlightening Friday Sermons on the subject that are a beckon of light for anyone in this often perplexing world that we live in. These Friday Sermons are being presented in this booklet.
Abou El Fadl (Islamic law, UCLA School of Law) wrote the 62 brief essays here over the course of five years. Through a combination of musings and critical reflections on classical Muslim authors, he both traces Muslim intellectual history and also confronts questions of ethics, faith, law, politics, culture, and modern identity. He ranges over many facets of Islam in the contemporary world, exploring censorship, political oppression, terrorism, the veil and the treatment of women, marriage, parental rights, the dynamics between law and morality, the character of the prophet Muhammad, and other topics. About half the essays first appeared in The minaret magazine. c. Book News Inc.
"The purpose of this book is to inform and educate the general public of how Islam is taught in a mosque in the heartland of America. It includes the Friday khutbah (sermons) by Imam Omar Hazim and several other Imams (Spiritual Leaders). The hope is to help to clarify some of the misconceptions and distortions about the religion of Islam. In addition to the sermons, there will be articles from other publications, excerpts of sermons and photos. Included also is information about the diversity among the Muslim population in the Heartland of America. This book is very timely, as Islam has been reported as being the fasting growing religion in the World. For anyone who ever thought about or wondered what is taught in the Friday services at a Mosque, this book is a must read for them."
As-Salah is not only the 2nd pillar but also the main pillar of Islam and on the Day of Judgment the first question will be about Salah. The Holy Qur’an does not only repeat the order of Allah (SWT) about establishing the Salah numerous times but also states that Salah and Zakah had been obligatory in the Shari‘ah of all prior Prophets and is a must for our success in this life and in the life hereafter: We noticed brothers / sisters missing the pillars of Salah without which Salah is invalidated and Salah has to be repeated to complete it. We also noticed that brothers/ sisters getting into hot arguments and start labeling each other as Wahaabi, Ahl-e-Hadith, Brailvi, Dewbandi etc. for those parts of Salah, the performing or missing of which does not make any difference in completing the Salah. In this booklet we have tabulated the pillar (Fardh), obligatory (Wajib) and Sunnah parts of Salah as a quick reference. The difference between a pillar and obligatory part is that a pillar cannot be waived, whether one omits it deliberately or by mistake Salah has to be repeated. If one forgets any obligatory part of Salah, it can be compensated by doing the prostrations of forgetfulness (sujood al-sahw). The Sunnah’s of Salah, both in words and in actions, missing of any does not require repeating Salah or doing the prostrations of forgetfulness (sujood al-sahw). Then we have stated how Rasool Allah (PBUH) offered his Salah based on authentic ahadith. Rasool Allah (PBUH) said “Salah is the Mi‘raj of a believer,” therefore it should be performed as such. It start with Takbeer-e-Tahrima which means after pronouncing this Takbeer we are supposed to cut off from this world, be in the court of Allah (SWT) and start our meeting with Him. We should know what we are saying, how we are glorifying Him and what we are asking Him. When the meeting with Him is concluded we come back to this world with Tasleem on both sides, as if to deliver the Message of Peace to all turning our face to right-side and then left-side. May Allah (SWT) bless us and provide us the right guidance. We request that if you find any mistake or have any suggestion to improve this booklet, please do let us know.
