Excerpt from The Entomologist's Record and Journal of Variation, Vol. 52: January to December 1940 A few summers ago I reared some two dozen larvae of Saturnia pavonia, L., from the egg, and on the following 1st February I brought a dozen cocoons into a room in which the temperature was usually about 58° F. Excerpt from The Entomologist's Record and Journal of Variation, Vol. 50: January to December, 1938 Generalising, I think it is a true statement that no indigenous species can in reality be rare or it would soon cease to exist. Extremely local, yes. But this attribute of rarity is really an admission on our part of failure to understand fully its habits When these are learnt how often does a species become common. Excerpt from The Entomologist's Record and Journal of Variation, Vol. 10: January to December, 1898 On the completion of our tenth volume we again tender our heartiest thanks to our subscribers and contributors. To the latter we are exceedingly obliged for the great number of communications sent, and if we have sometimes been obliged to delay articles, it is simply because we have had so much material on hand that space has been lacking for their immediate publication. Our own papers, on the Migration and Dispersal of Insects, have on this account been delayed, and we have other interesting articles now standing over from some of our best entomologists Mrs. M. De B. Nicholl, Mr. J. J. Walker, Dr. T. A. Chapman, Professor Enzio Reuter, ph.d., and others. These articles we hope to publish early in the New Year. Excerpt from The Entomologist's Record and Journal of Variation, Vol. 15: January to December, 1903 Our Coleoptera section, thanks to the untiring energy of Mr. Donisthorpe and Professor Beare, has been specially well maintained, and Mr. Burr has kept the less popular section of Orthoptera moving. We have now, thanks to Mr. Burr, considerable material relative to Orthoptera in hand. That the contributions to our knowledge of the Lepidoptera shows no falling off is amply evident. We have attempted as far as possible to give a good supply of plates with this volume. In this department we are particularly indebted to the Hon. N. C. Rothschild, Dr. T. A. Chapman, and Mr. W. G. Sheldon, for generous help. A three-colour photograph that was to have been published with No. 12 to illustrate Dr. Chapman's new Psychid, and that cannot be completed in time for publication, will be published in one of the early numbers of the next volume. For our Special Index we are this year indebted to Professor T. Hudson Beare, Messrs. M. Burr and H. J. Turner. Such detailed work is always a great strain, and we are very grateful indeed for such kind help. The Rev. C. R. N. Burrows will do the General Index for Vol. Xvi. Excerpt from The Entomologist's Record and Journal of Variation, 1956, Vol. 68 From the backcross there emerged only apparent types, all of which I assumed to be heterozygotes. The foregoing results appear to confirm the fact that the character is a simple recessive but that it can at times be partially obscured by other factors.
