ABSTRACT: The current study was designed to determine whether differences existed in acceleration between the false step and parallel stancewhen traveling at a 45° angle over 10 m among 20 football players. Each participant completed the parallel stance, false step stance, and a preferred stance for a total of nine sprints. Separated paired t-tests were calculated to analyze the differences for parallel stanceand false step performance. The results showed the subjects had significantly (p =.017) faster acceleration times using the parallelstance than the false step stance. Further analysis showed the parallel stance to be significantly better than the false step when going to the left (p=.031) and to the right (p=.Ol). A one way ANOVA repeated measure was used to analyze differences in the parallel stance, false step, and preferred stance. The parallel stance was significantly faster than the false step (p=.024) and preferred stance (p=.008). The parallel stance is better when moving at a 45° angle compared to the false step.
Biomechanics in Animal Behaviour offers a unique approach by integrating fully the fields of animal behaviour and biomechanics. It demonstrates how an understanding of biomechanical issues is an important part of evaluating and predicting animal behaviour. The book examines how behaviour is determined and/or constrained by biomechanical variables such as hydrodynamics, aerodynamics, kinematics, and the mechanical properties of biomaterials.
