John Long, Sr. was born in 1685 and married Elizebeth Powell in 1710 in Queen Anne's County, Maryland. It is presumed, but not proven, that John's father was David Long who was the younger son of an English family with some Welsh blood. It is also believed, but unconfirmed, that they came to Maryland from the Barbados in the 1600s. Elizebeth was the daughter of George and Ann Powell. John Long, Jr. was one of four children born to John and Elizebeth. He was born in 1722 in Williamsville, Baltimore, Maryland and married Anne Harrington, daughter of David and Rebecca Harrington, on 12 July 1744 in Queen Anne's County. They had 8 children. Descendants lived in Maryland, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Minnesota, Michigan, South Dakota, and elsewhere.
