William French (b.1603) and his family emigrated from England in 1624 on the ship "Defence" to Cambridge, Massachusetts. He was the son of Thomas French of Halstead, County Essex, England. William and his wife Elizabeth were married in about 1623. William is a descendant of "Thomas French the elder, of Weathersfield, County Essex, England, [who] died [in] 1599".--P. 21. Descendants and relatives lived in New England, New York, Ohio, Michigan, Iowa, Minnesota, Pennsylvania, Tennessee and elsewhere. Includes some ancestry in England.
"John Holbrook, son of William Holbrook, of Glasstonbury, Somersetshire, England was born circa 1595. He married his wife Sarah in England. It is presumed John and Sarah emigrated from England to America prior to 1625. The Holbrooks fourth child was born in Weymouth, Massachusetts in 1627. "He [John] was in Dorchester, Massachusetts Bay Colony in 1635 and in 1640 he was made a freeman there ... [He] settled in that part of Weymouth known as "Old Spain"--Page 9. Sarah Holbrook " ... died in Weymouth, Massachusetts Bay Colony, November 14, 1643"--Page 9. John "died probably before 1644."--P. 9. Walter LaFayette Bell (1889-1976) was born in Butterfield, Missouri, son of Jonas Bradley Bell (1843-1931) and Martha Ann Cooper (1865-1890). He married Ruth Rankin (1900-1975), born in Jonesboro, Arkansas, daughter of James Lewis Rankin (1854-1928) and Mary Elizabeth Dawson (1860-1912). Ancestry traced to John Bell (1668-1713) who died in Surry County, Virginia and Robert Rankin (1749-1816) of the Carolinas and Kentucky, as well as many other ancestors. Ancestors, descendants and relatives lived in Illinois, Missouri, Utah, Tennessee, Kentucky, Virginia, Arkansas, Texas, Indiana, North Carolina, Wisconsin, Iowa, Mississippi, South Carolina and elsewhere.
James Branch was born in North Carolina ca. 1760-1770. He married Rachel (?) who was born in 1766 and died in 1850. They moved to Laurens County, George around 1838. He pursuaded other family members to move to Laurens County. They are found in the 1820 census of that county. James and Rachel were the parents of four children (possibly more): David, Elias, Rachel and William. Descendants lived mostly in Georgia, with others moving to Florida and elsewhere.
