Excerpt from The Christian Library, Vol. 2: Comprising a Series of Standard Works in Religious Literature If another man speaks of his hope as founded upon the un bounded mercy of God, which is over all his works, the same ignorance of the law lies at the foundation of this delu sion. Its claims must be satisfied. It allows not, it cannot allow, the name of mercy. Without the shedding of blood, it offers no remission and until its full penalty has been sustained, it is utterly vain to think of charming its demands to rest.
