The Low-Level Radioactive Waste Policy Act (P.L. 96-573) was enacted by the U.S. Congress in 1980. This Act gave responsibility for disposal of commercially generated low-level radioactive waste to the states. The Central Interstate Compact, made up of Arkansas, Kansas, Louisiana, Nebraska and Oklahoma was formed in 1983 & given Congressional consent (P.L. 99-240) as part of the Low-Level Radioactive Waste Policy Amendments Act. This report outlines the plan for management of this compact.
