"Our roots in America can be traced back to a Francis Bradley, who was living in Fairfield, Connecticut in the early 1660's. In Francis' time and earlier, the family name was often spelled 'Broadley' which is closer to its original meaning "of the broad meadow" in Old English. Francis had probably been born in either Bradford or Coventry, England around 1620. ...[H]e took his 'freeman's oath' in Fairfield in 1664. ...Francis married Ruth Barlow, daughter of John Barlow and Ann Ward. ...Francis... died in Fairfield in 1689."-- Pages 5-6.
