""The Bible Home Instructor"" is a classic Bible study guide, originally published in 1920. It is a compilation of Bible testimony on a multitude of Christian subjects. Each of the many biblical topics encapsulates one or more doctrinal truths, as understood and explained by the original author, Andrew N. Dugger. In 1995, I assisted ministerial author, Richard C. Nickels, in creating an updated edition of this popular Bible study guide. For all of us who participated in this project, it was a work of love. That printed version is still being sold, and oftentimes at exorbitant prices. Therefore, I have decided to publish this updated edition and sell it for the cost of printing. I also offer a free, text-only PDF through my online bookstore at http: //www.lulu.com/spotlight/KerryBarger . The PDF can be copied and shared freely among any number of people. This book can shed the precious light of God's truth into your life and the lives of all who take its teachings to heart.
Why does Bible study flourish in some churches and small groups and not in others? In this updated edition of a trusted classic, two Christian education specialists provide readers with the knowledge and methods needed to effectively communicate the message of the Bible. The book offers concrete guidance for mastering a biblical text, interpreting it, and applying its relevance to life. Its methods, which have been field-tested for twenty-five years, help pastors, teachers, and ministry students improve their classroom skills. Readers will learn how to develop the "big idea" of a passage and allow the text itself to suggest creative teaching methods. This new edition has been updated throughout and explores the changed landscape of Bible study over the past two decades. Readable and interdisciplinary in approach, this book will help a new generation of Bible students teach in a purposeful and unified way.
Scores of competent Bible instructors have contributed experiences and observations for the pages of this long awaited handbook of counsel and instruction in the art of giving Bible readings. The personal and spiritual requirements for Bible teaching, the problems that confront every Bible instructor, the psychology of approach, the various methods of cooperating with evangelistic efforts, sample outline studies--all form a part of the contents of this volume. It will prove not only a handbook of procedure for beginners but also a real inspiration to seasoned workers in the field of evangelism. Every pastor and evangelist as well as their Bible assistants and lay workers, will find it useful.
What beliefs are core to the Christian faith? This book is here to help you understand the reason for your hope as a Christian so that you can see it with fresh sight and invite others into the conversation. A lot of Christians take their story—the narratives that give rise to their beliefs—for granted. They pray, go to church, perhaps even read their Bible. But they might be stuck if a stranger asked them to explain what they believe and why they believe it. Author, pastor, and theologian Mike Horton unpacks the essential and basic beliefs that all Christians share in a way that is easy to understand and applicable to our lives today. And in a way that will make you excited to be a Christian! Core Christianity covers topics like: Jesus as both fully God and fully man. The doctrine of the Trinity. The goodness of God despite a broken world. The ways God speaks. The meaning of salvation. What is the Christian calling? Includes discussion questions for individual or group use. This introduction to the basic doctrines of Christianity is perfect for those who are new to the faith, as well as those who have an interest in deepening their understanding of what it means to be a follower of Jesus Christ.
In this outstanding Christian Education resource, the entire Bible Genesis 1 to Revelation 22 is divided into teachable units. There are many link-to-life ideas to help teach each unity to any age group.
Acts: vital to the church in every generation An exciting story of church growth Gospel spread from Jerusalem to Rome and beyond
The author was conducting a workshop for teachers in a church and was handed a note by a young woman in the workshop. The note read, "I have never taught anything or anyone . . . I don't know how to begin to prepare. Can you help?" Dr. Coleman meets scores of teachers just like the young woman. He indicates there are "men and women who are doing their best, but who have serious doubts about their adequacy as teachers of the Bible. Wherever you meet them, they ask these same questions: How can I learn enough about the Bible to have something worth sharing with my class? How can I get the members of my class involved in the lessons, so I won't have to do all the talking? How do you get people interested, when they seem so indifferent to Bible study? Is there any way to get the class members to study their lessons? How do you lead class members to do something about the message of the Bible, other than just sit there and discuss it? Where can I find out more about teaching methods? How do you prepare a teaching plan? "These workers care deeply about Bible teaching. They want to do a good job. But they don't quite know how to go about it. And that explains the reason for this book." Dr. Coleman integrates theory and practice in a how-to-do-it book which combines discussions of teaching with skill-building exercises. He brings the elements of a Bible teacher's conference to the individual who has had no opportunity to attend such a conference. At the same time, the book may also be used as a textbook for teacher-training workshops.
