It is not possible to successfully undertake lay ministry without the anointing. Sadly, many lay ministers do not prioritize or give proper place to the anointing and this is why many of them seem to struggle. To successfully carry out lay ministry whether in the area of teaching the word, soul-winning, and pastoral care, or even in carrying out administrative duties, the lay minister needs the anointing. Thus, understanding the anointing, how to function in it, and develop it, is necessary for every minister. In this book, I will show you what the anointing is, how it functions, and how to develop it for optimal results in lay ministry.

Healing is a gift and not a right. The prayer of faith is powerful, but the most faithful prayer of power was that of Jesus in the garden of Gethsemane, on the eve of his great ordeal: "Father, if you are willing, remove this cup from me; yet, not my will but yours be done" (Luke 22:42). Anointing cannot guarantee healing. If it could it would border on magic, and would imply that we in some way control God's actions. God is in control of history and healing. It is God who invites us to join into a community of prayer through the ordinance of anointing. (excerpt from Partners In Healing) Though there are countless instances of anointing in the Bible, it is seldom practiced in many Christian traditions today. But this essential rite reminds us that God is the true source of restoration and healing -- and that he is at work in all aspects of our lives. Anointing affirms and symbolizes our partnership with God, and it invites God to be part of the healing process for anyone who is sick physically, emotionally, or spiritually. Partners In Healing is a complete guide with all the resources you need to revive this ancient practice as part of a comprehensive ministry of healing. In addition to exploring the biblical and historical background for anointing, you'll find a wealth of practical, easy-to-use material. There's an extensive range of services and prayers, as well as sermons you can use to introduce this ministry to congregations unfamiliar with it. Discussion questions and activities are also included, making this an excellent resource for small group study. The work of lay ministry requires a consciousness of some foundational aspects of ministry. Consciousness in this instance refers to constant awareness and sensitivity that leads to automated compliance. These are the aspects we are to give attention to so that they will awaken in us and thus become part of our functionality in lay ministry. The desire to become effective in lay ministry must therefore be backed with a consciousness or constant awareness of the spirit, the ministry of reconciliation, the identity of the church, personal judgment, God’s Eternal purpose, and the ministry of the word. Without this consciousness and understanding, you will not be effective in your practice of lay ministry. A consciousness of these truths forms the core or basis from which a true lay minister operates.
Practicing lay ministry is becoming more difficult for the lay minister in these present times. First, the lay minister has the challenge of balancing work, family, and ministry. Also, the lay minister has the challenge of allocating time for prayers and fasting, soulwinning, outreaches, follow-up, and visitation. Thus, time management becomes a major challenge. Therefore, in this book, I will focus on time management, mastering time, time allocation theory, time exchange market (TIREX), time operating machine, and how to buy time in the midst of your busy schedule. I will also focus on the major activities or practices that make up lay ministry and practical steps you may apply in executing these practices.
