Richard Jordan Compton (1832-1898), son of John Compton and Ann Jordan, was born in Buffalo, New York. He married Ella Louise Cleveland (1834-1919), daughter of Palmer and Sarepta Swan, in 1853. The immigrant ancestor of the Cleveland family was Moses or Moyses Cleveland or Cleaveland, who was born 1624 in Ipswich, Suffolk, England. He married Ann Winn (abt. 1626-1682) in 1648 in Woburn, Massachusetts. The immigrant ancestor of the Compton family was John Compton (1801-1840?) of England. He married Ann Jordan (d. 1873) in 1822 in Middlesex, England. Descendants live in New York, Missouri, Louisiana, Pennsylvania, Illinois and elsewhere.
