After two short weeks under siege, the climactic battle of the Alamo lasted under an hour, but its aftermath spawned a legend. The Alamo: A Cultural History explores the transformation of the fort from its 1718 inception as a Franciscan mission to its current status as a tourist attraction, historical monument, and international symbol of freedom.
I have revised my first publication to an 8.5" x 11" format. I have collected MARX Playsets for over thirty years. Until I retired they sat in my attic collecting dust. After I retired I dusted them off and set them up taking pictures which I then turned into books like this one. What I've learned from being a collector is this, at some point you have to do something with all this stuff. I've spent a lot of money over the years and in hindsight if a book like this one had been available I would have purchased it. It would have saved me money and work because setting these playsets were work and nothing like I remember as a kid playing with them. If you are a MARX toy enthusiast I believe you'll enjoy my books on these great toys. Thank you, Gary
Presents information about all of Marx's Western Playsets and about people who designed the dozens of types of playsets and action figures. Includes never-before-published material, such as factory specifications, from Louis Marx & Company.
This delightfully unusual book by H. G. Wells is a comprehensive guide to Little War, a game invented by Wells for "boys from twelve to one hundred and fifty years old and for that more intelligent sort of girls who like boys' games and books". A fascinating look at a bygone era, when boys were boys, and most girls (except the more intelligent ones) were girls. With a history of Little War, detailed instructions to playing it, a description of an exemplary game, extensions and amplifications to the game, and a final challenge by the author to his young readers. Many of the earliest books, particularly those dating back to the 1900s and before, are now extremely scarce and increasingly expensive. We are republishing these classic works in affordable, high quality, modern editions, using the original text and artwork.
Professor Ian Norman, historian, academic, and toy soldier maker, travels to Texas to visit the filming of the latest Hollywood epic based on the fall of the Alamo. Shortly after his arrival, the award-winning director is found murdered on the set. Working with his friend, FBI agent Maggie Sullivan, he soon finds himself in the thick of death as the stars of the film fall around him. Only the quick thinking of the pair exposes the killer and prevents the sinister destruction of one of the best known symbols in American history.
"Collections are more about who one is than about what is collected. In Little Big World, Jeffrey Hammond's resonant 1950Æs inner child speaks through the reflective sixty-something man about the culture and magic of a spectrum of action figure playsets through a lifetime."ùMarilynn Gelfman Karp, author, In Flagrante Collecto

If you're like most of us, the mailman's annual delivery of Sears, Roebuck and Company's Christmas Catalog was a holiday event in years past. Most American children watched the mailbox carefully for those wondrous old catalogs. They were chock full of childhood fantasies... enough toys, dolls, trains and bikes to make any kid start writing his or her letter to Santa Claus. That's probably why the nickname "Wishbook" stuck. And if you grew up during the Baby Boomer years of the Fifties and Sixties, there's big news. Those lost Wishbook pages full of wonderful toys targeted to boys have been reproduced in Boys' Toys, an exciting new book containing authorized reproductions of the very best boy-toy pages from 1950 through 1969.
