As the term draws to a close, the students of Cheltonia are engrossed in practicing for the upcoming sports events. Among the athletes vying for the high jump title are Reginald Hattersley-Carr, a towering figure commanding respect and awe, and Pierce Errington, a popular and impulsive fellow loved by all. Just as Errington prepares to take his turn, a peculiar visitor arrives—an enigmatic Chinaman named Mr. Ting. Accompanied by Burroughs, Errington's level-headed friend, they join the competition, much to the amusement and skepticism of onlookers.
