Excerpt from The Admiralty Decisions of Sir William Young, Kt, LL. B: Judge of the Court of Vice-Admiralty for the Province of Nova Scotia, and Late Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, 1865-1880 As Judge in the Court of vice-admiralty, for the Province of Nova Scotia, and will be found to embrace decisions upon many of the most important questions of principle and practice, falling within the jurisdiction of such a Court. The cases have been printed from His Lordship's mann script notes, supplemented by reference to the papers in the cause. No report of the arguments having been pre served, summary of the points taken by Counsel could not be given, but the names of the respective Counsel engaged so far as obtainable have been appended. The circum stance that His Lordship invariably prefaced his decisions with an adequate statement of the facts, as well as the pleadings, in large measure compensates for the absence of a cotemporary report of the proceedings before him. The sheets have been all carefully read by His Lordship while passing through the press, so that the utmost attainable accuracy may be considered as secured, and the Editor commits the work to his professional brethren with the hope, that his labours may prove in some degree successful in rendering available these hitherto unpublished decisions.
