Excerpt from Tests to Determine the Rigidity of Riveted Joints of Steel Structures The tests described in this bulletin were made under the general supervision of Dr. F. H. Newell, head of the Department of Civil Engineering, and of Dr. A. N. Talbot, head of the Department of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics. The tests formed a part of the regular research work of these Departments. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Semi-rigid steel frames are revolutionizing structural design. This book is a practical professional reference, covering analytical methods for the evaluation of connection flexibility and its influence on the stability of the entire framework. The methods range from a simplified member-by-member design approach to a more sophisticated computer-based advanced analysis and design approach.
Over 150 papers representing the most recent international research findings on steel and composite structures. Including steel constructions; buckling and stability; codes; composite; control; fatigue and fracture; fire; impact; joints; maintenance; plates and shells; retrofitting; seismic; space structures; steel; structural analysis; structural components and assemblies; thin-walled structures; vibrations, and wind. A special session is dedicated on codification. A valuable source of information to researchers and practitioners in the field of steel and composite structures.
Frames made up of rectangular elements are usually statically indeterminate, i.e. the stresses in them can be found only by taking into account the relative stiffness and deformation of the various members. The common use of rectangular frames in engineering structures makes it highly desirable that the most convenient methods of analyzing their stresses should be developed. The stresses in a number of such rectangular frames have been analyzed in this research, and this report describes the methods used and presents the formulas derived.
