A roof, a door, some windows, a floor. All houses have them, but not all houses are alike. Some have wings (airplane homes), some have wheels (Romany vardoes), some float; some are made of straw, some of snow and ice. Some are enormous, some are tiny; some are permanent and some are temporary. But all are home. Take Shelter explores the ways people live all over the world and beyond—from the Arctic to the Antarctic, from an underground house in Las Vegas to the International Space Station. Everywhere people live, they adapt to their surroundings and create unique environments, using innovative techniques to provide that most basic of needs: shelter.
A few days after aliens attack Earth, Austin and his mother arrive safely at an emergency shelter, but they soon realize the shelter is not exactly a safe haven.
Several days after the aliens attacked Earth, Austin and his mom have reached an emergency shelter. But even the most prepared shelters weren't ready for an invasion like this. Overcrowding, low food rations, and limited medical supplies are just the beginning of the list of problems at this place. Austin and his friends are tempted to leave and look for somewhere better. But beyond the shelter's gates there are no guarantees. Is it worth the risk? Perfect for survival-story enthusiasts, this Attack on Earth novel is packed full of action and drama to engage reluctant readers.
A young adult debut from internationally bestselling author Harlan Coben Mickey Bolitar's year can't get much worse. After witnessing his father's death and sending his mom to rehab, he's forced to live with his estranged uncle Myron and switch high schools. A new school comes with new friends and new enemies, and lucky for Mickey, it also comes with a great new girlfriend, Ashley. For a while, it seems like Mickey's train-wreck of a life is finally improving - until Ashley vanishes without a trace. Unwilling to let another person walk out of his life, Mickey follows Ashley's trail into a seedy underworld that reveals that this seemingly sweet, shy girl isn't who she claimed to be. And neither was Mickey's father. Soon, Mickey learns about a conspiracy so shocking that it makes high school drama seem like a luxury - and leaves him questioning everything about the life he thought he knew. First introduced to readers in Harlan Coben's latest adult novel, Live Wire, Mickey Bolitar is as quick-witted and clever as his uncle Myron, and eager to go to any length to save the people he cares about. With this new series, Coben introduces an entirely new generation of fans to the masterful plotting and wry humor that have made him an award-winning, internationally bestselling, and beloved author. Follow Mickey Bolitar on his next adventure in Seconds Away, coming out in Fall 2012!
Srīla Bhaktivinoda Ṭhākura wrote two translation-cum-commentaries on the Bhagavad-Gītā known as Rasika-rañjana and Vidvad-rañjana. These commentaries are based on Srīla Viśvanātha Cakravartī's Sārārtha-varṣiṇī and Srīla Baladeva Vidyābhūṣaṇa's Gītā-bhūṣaṇa, respectively. The two works are mostly the same, with only a few differences here and there. In some places, one commentary provides additional information, while in others, they differ in the words they use. In most instances, they only change the word order, with no change in meaning, since Bengali is a language with a free word order. To facilitate a comparative study for the inquisitive readers, a single translation is given, with differences or additions from each of the commentaries shown in brackets.
