Assessment in natural contexts through observation is unquestionably complex. Systematic observation grounded in observational methodology offers a wide range of possibilities to the rigorous study of everyday behavior in their natural context. These possibilities have been enriched in recent decades with the explosion of information and communication technologies. In this eBook we assemble 23 articles from several researchers who have made important contributions to this evolving field. The articles included in this eBook has been organized with a first part on general methodological developments and a second part with methodological contributions that emphasize different application areas. Considering the enormous possibilities of the systematic observation in the study of daily life, we hope this eBook will be useful to understand innovative applications in different fields.
This Research Topic is linked to the 3rd International Conference of Environmental Psychology (ICEP 2021), to be held in Siracusa, Italy, 4-9 October 2021. The ICEP is one of the most important scientific events in the global community for experienced scholars, junior researchers and professionals working in the field of Environmental Psychology across the world. Submissions to this Research Topic welcome, but are not limited to, works that have been presented (on site and virtually) at the ICEP 2021. Research Topic articles will be published immediately once accepted in the journal. This Research Topic aims to promote the scientific debate over the most recent empirical findings and theoretical advances in Environmental Psychological science, and to build evidence-based knowledge and innovative approaches to understand the relationship between humans and their socio-physical environments. Informal language learning beyond the classroom plays an important and growing role in language learning and teaching. Much of adult learning takes place outside of formal education and for language learning, it is likely that out-of-class experiences play an equally important role. It is therefore surprising that the role of informal language learning has received little attention over the years, with the vast majority of research instead focusing on the classroom.
