(Cont.) The synthetic scheme was also utilized to produce a monomer that could be electrochemically cross-linked in a controlled fashion. In chapter four, a variety of polythiophene derivatives that incorporated azaferrocenes complexes into the main polymer chain were synthesized. These polymers were then used to ascertain the effect of a n-bound metal on the main chain of a conducting polymer. The oxidation of the metal centers in the polymer produced a significant change in the conductivity of the polymer film. Changing the length and oxidation potential of the polythiophene section of the monomer appeared to alter the charge delocalization of the polymers. In chapter five, a series of polythiophene derivatives containing cyclobutadiene cobalt cyclopentadiene complexes in the main polymer chain were synthesized. The viability of the electropolymerization of the complexes was determined by the relative position of organic section's oxidation potential versus the oxidation of the metal centers. The metal coordinated cyclobutadiene ring of the complex appeared to have a modest charge transport ability.
This book presents synthesis methods, characterization techniques, properties and applications of hybrid conducting polymers. Special emphasis is given to the applications of hybrid conductive polymers, with chapters ranging from electronic devices, environmental remediation, and sensors, to medical applications.
This book, written by leading experts of the international scientific community, is divided into 10 chapters and gives a comprehensive review of the important aspects of conducting polymers. Synthetic methodologies of these polymers and their nanocomposites along with their electrical and electrochemical properties are described herein. Application of the conducting polymers for sensors, solar cells and lithium batteries are also presented. The editor and all contributors believe the subjects highlighted are important topics in the field of conducting polymers and make this book a very useful scientific support to a large audience of readers, from students to senior researchers in the academic community and from engineers to business people in different industrial sectors.
This book presents a comprehensive survey about conducting polymers and their hybrids with different materials. It highlights the topics pertinent to research and development in academia and in the industry. The book thus discusses the preparation and characterization of these materials, as well as materials properties and their processing. The current challenges in the field are addressed, and an outline on new and even futuristic approaches is given. “Conducting Polymer Hybrids” is concerned with a fascinating class of materials with the promise for wide-ranging applications, including energy generation and storage, supercapacitors, electronics, display technologies, sensing, environmental and biomedical applications. The book covers a large variety of systems: one-, two-, and three-dimenstional composites and hybrids, mixed at micro- and nanolevel.
