In the survey of high velocity impact information, a great deal of data was accumulated. Considerable difficulty was experienced in extracting original measured quantities, and originating laboratories were contacted whenever possible to supply tabulated data and additional information concerning material properties and measuring techniques. In some cases, such information was no longer available, and information was extracted from graphical data plots, and material properties corresponding to the material specifications were extracted from handbooks. The collected data are organized and presented under separate headings according to the projectiletarget configuration. (Author).
High-Velocity Impact Phenomena covers a wide range of pertinent topics dealing with impact phenomena. The book discusses hypervelocity accelerators; stress wave propagation in solids; and the theory of impact. The text also describes the application of the theory of impact on thin targets and shields and correlation with experiment; the numerical evaluation of hypervelocity impact phenomena; and analytical studies of impact-generated shock propagation. The equation of state of solids from shock wave studies; metallurgical observations and energy partitioning; and engineering considerations in hypervelocity impact are also encompassed. Design engineers will find the book invaluable.

This book comprehensively discusses essential aspects of terminal ballistics, combining experimental data, numerical simulations and analytical modeling. Employing a unique approach to numerical simulations as a measure of sensitivity for the major physical parameters, the new edition also includes the following features: new figures to better illustrate the problems discussed; improved explanations for the equation of state of a solid and for the cavity expansion process; new data concerning the Kolsky bar test; and a discussion of analytical modeling for the hole diameter in a thin metallic plate impacted by a shaped charge jet. The section on thick concrete targets penetrated by rigid projectiles has now been expanded to include the latest findings, and two new sections have been added: one on a novel approach to the perforation of thin concrete slabs, and one on testing the failure of thin metallic plates using a hydrodynamic ram.
