This collection is dedicated to the 70th jubilee of Yu. N. Savchenko, and presents experimental, theoretical, and numerical investigations written by an international group of well-known authors. The contributions solve very important problems of the high-speed hydrodynamics,such as supersonic motion in water, drag diminishing, dynamics and stability of supercavitating vehicles, water entry and hydrodynamic performances of hydrofoils, ventilated cavities after a disc and under the ship bottom. Frontiers in Applied Mechanics is a compilation of cutting-edge research in applied mechanics by 65 of the world's leading researchers and academics. Abstract: The existing two-dimensional theory for the characteristics of supercavitating hydrofoils operating at zero cavitation number is modified to include the effects of camber, aspect ratio, and depth of submersion. For a comparison with the theory, two aspect-ratio-1 hydrofoils, a flat plate and one with a cambered lower surface, were tested by operating them near the water surface so that their upper surfaces were completely ventilated. The data obtained verified the theory to within 3 percent. Some experimental data are also presented for the models operating at nonzero cavitation number for both air and water-vapor-filled cavities.
This text deals with the concept that cavitation is the main limitation to the performance of hydraulic components. Topics covered include the vaporization of liquids due to high velocities or pressure fluctuations, and the effects of cavitation on the performances of rotary machinery. One chapter is devoted to cavitation noise which concerns many users, including surface ships and submarines, and the author finishes with some examples of the use of cavitation and subject-specific measuring techniques.
The 24th International Symposium on Shock Waves (ISSW24) was held at the Beijing Friendship Hotel during July 11-16, 2004, in Beijing. It was a great pleasure for the Local Organizing Committee to organize the ISSW in China for the first time, because forty-seven years have passed since the First Shock Tube Symposium was held in 1957 at Albuquerque. The ISSW24 had to be postponed for one year because of the SARS outbreak in Beijing shortly before the Symposium was scheduled to be held in 2003, but it has achieved success due to the continuous support and kind understanding from all the delegates. It is very heart-warming to have had such an experience and I am very happy to have served as chairman for the Symposium. I would like to thank all for the contributions and help that they have given us over the past three years, without which we would not have had the Symposium. A total of 460 abstracts were submitted to the ISSW24. Each of the abstracts was evaluated by three members of the Scientific Review Committee and the decision on acceptance wasmade based on the reviewers' reports. 195oral papers,including 9plenary lectures, wereaccepted to be presented in three parallel sessions, and 135poster papers in three dedicated poster sessions. Topics discussed in these papers cover all aspects ofshock wave research.

Marine propulsors are key components of the many thousands of ships and boats operating in oceans, lakes, and rivers around the world. The performance of propulsors are important for the environmental impact of ships, underwater noise impact on aquatic fauna, and crew and passenger comfort and safety. This book presents nineteen papers devoted to the hydrodynamics of different types of marine propulsors (conventional propellers, thrusters, and novel solutions). Most of the papers are extended papers from the sixth International Symposium on Marine Propulsors (SMP 2019). Several of the papers deal with cavitation, vortices, and energy saving devices. The papers present high-quality research performed using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and Experimental Fluid Dynamics (EFD) as well Artificial Intelligence (AI).
"Fluid Machinery and Fluid Mechanics: 4th International Symposium (4th ISFMFE)" is the proceedings of 4th International Symposium on Fluid Machinery and Fluid Engineering, held in Beijing November 24-27, 2008. It contains 69 highly informative technical papers presented at the Mei Lecture session and the technical sessions of the symposium. The Chinese Society of Engineering Thermophysics (CSET) organized the First, the Second and the Third International Symposium on Fluid Machinery and Fluid Engineering (1996, 2000 and 2004). The purpose of the 4th Symposium is to provide a common forum for exchange of scientific and technical information worldwide on fluid machinery and fluid engineering for scientists and engineers. The main subject of this symposium is "Fluid Machinery for Energy Conservation". The "Mei Lecture" reports on the most recent developments of fluid machinery in commemoration of the late professor Mei Zuyan. The book is intended for researchers and engineers in fluid machinery and fluid engineering.
