Excerpt from Physiological Studies Influence of the arterial wall. Living excised arteries were used in various states of contraction and relaxation - thickened arteries Of Old age and morbid conditions as well as those Of normal adult animals. Surviving arteries from the legs Of Old horses provide valuable material in this connexion, being Of great vitality and commonly thickened. The vessels were perfused with Ringer's fluid, a continuous or a pulsatile stream at different temperatures, and the relations Of the external and internal pressures determined when the former was just sufficient to cause obliteration or to allow recommencement Of the flow. The results were correlated with those Obtained in blood-pressure estimations in man. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Excerpt from Blood-Pressure: Its Clinical Applications The exhaustion of the second edition of this work within a year has given opportunity for the inclusion of a considerable amount of new material. While this has been introduced throughout the book, particularly important additions have been made in those sections dealing with the functional testing and cardiac efficiency, with blood-pressure in disease, in the chapter on the Effects of Drugs and in the chapter on Physiology. The author has continued his endeavor to present the subject of blood-pressure in a condensed and practical form as definitely as the present state of our knowledge permits. Wherever possible a summary of the experimental as well as the clinical data available for the consideration of a given topic has been included, together with references to articles upon which statements are based. As in the earlier editions the chapters upon Physiology and upon Venous Blood-pressure have been written and revised by Dr. J. Harold Austin. The author's thanks are due to Miss Eleanor A. Cantner for valuable assistance in the preparation of the charts and drawings. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Research centering on blood flow in the heart continues to hold an important position, especially since a better understanding of the subject may help reduce the incidence of coronary arterial disease and heart attacks. This book summarizes recent advances in the field; it is the product of fruitful cooperation among international scientists who met in Japan in May, 1990 to discuss the regulation of coronary blood flow.
