The Goddesses of Lamerion each have the power to create life and the power to destroy life. Together the six Goddesses of Lamerion must work diligently to ensure the delicate balance of night and day, of water and air, of plant and animal, remains secure. Life in all forms can only be sustained through the cooperation of Beings who have the ability to annihilate the very essence of Lamerion should They so choose. The choice to cherish Their charge and thus enable life to thrive upon the land was made long ago due to a form of strength greater than even Their own. Three races of Faer inhabit Lamerion and owe their millions of years of existence to the Goddesses that nurtured the land of their birth. Few fully understood the significance of the duties that the Goddesses assumed that allowed the Faer to survive as a people, yet all revered the Goddesses nonetheless as they coexisted with the other forms of life that thrived for millions of years in Lamerion. Dark and evil creatures began to appear in Lamerion, and Goddess and Fae alike grieved as they watched what was once good and fair become evil and foul. For hundreds of years, They watched and tried to compensate as Bekchers and Goblins and Trolls terrorized Lamerion until They feared that all would be lost. Then a Fae was born with an evil heart such as had never before existed within any of the three races of Faer. As Jolten grew and his illness began to dominate his heart, he began to influence the very balance of life and death that the Goddesses had worked to stabilize. The evil that Jolten spread across Lamerion set in motion events that would lead to the creation of a unique and powerful group of Faer. The Goddesses charged a carefully chosen group of Faer—Feenin, Atilles, and Satran all—with the task of protecting a babe whose destiny it was to unite the Faer of Lamerion. Dangerous journeys, improbable victories, and life-alerting decisions quickly drew the chosen few close and strengthened the bonds that would forever bind them together. A powerful web of love grew between the Faer until a family that would never be surpassed was created.
In this exciting conclusion to the adventure that began in Faer Dreams and continued through Faer Pride and Faer Sorrow, the family is once again fighting for the good of Lamerion. They are now joined by all Faer as they heal and prepare to face the evil of the Thyride and of Jolten himself. Suspicion and doubt hound the rescued maidens, yet with the love of their family and friends, they will prove that nothing can prevent them from realizing their destiny.
In Feenin, Alexander Ghedi Weheliye traces R&B music’s continuing centrality in Black life since the late 1970s. Focusing on various musical production and reproduction technologies such as auto-tune and the materiality of the BlackFem singing voice, Weheliye counteracts the widespread popular and scholarly narratives of the genre’s decline and death. He shows how R&B remains a thriving venue for the expression of Black thought and life and a primary archive of the contemporary moment. Among other topics, Weheliye discusses the postdisco evolution of house music in Chicago and techno in Detroit, Prince and David Bowie in relation to appropriations of Blackness and Euro-whiteness in the 1980s, how the BlackFem voice functions as a repository of Black knowledge, the methods contemporary R&B musicians use to bring attention to Black Lives Matter, and the ways vocal distortion technologies such as the vocoder demonstrate Black music’s relevance to discussions of humanism and posthumanism. Ultimately, Feenin represents Weheliye’s capacious thinking about R&B as the site through which to consider questions of Blackness, technology, history, humanity, community, diaspora, and nationhood.
Three distinct races of Faer had colonized nearly every corner of Lamerion in the millennia that they had lived in peace with the other forms of life that thrived on the land. The most common race of Faer were the Atilles Faer who were characterized by two broad triangular wings and who lived in all corners of Lamerion. The wingless Satran Faer were both smaller and less numerous than the Atilles Faer and had settled primarily in the south in small farming villages with Faer of their own kind. The tallest and the rarest race of Faer, a race known as Feenin and identified by four long elliptical wings, had once been found throughout much of Lamerion yet now they dwell in small numbers in only a few villages with the Atilles and Satran Faer. The spreading of Goblins and Trolls and Thyride had forced many Faer and animals to leave their homes and seek safety elsewhere. Forests and lakes became devoid of all animals. Some villages saw the slaughter of all inhabitants while other settlements were simply abandoned. Lives were ended too soon as evil and darkness spread across the land. The six Goddesses that nurtured Lamerion grieved even as They tried to aid the beings that They cherished. The Goddesses brought together representatives from all three races of Faer and guided them as they fought to bring the Faer of Lamerion together to fight their enemies and to win back the land. Victory and tragedy and love and sorrow followed the chosen group as they traveled across Lamerion at the behest of the Goddesses. They touched all whom they met for their love and dedication toward one another, regardless of race, had not been seen or experienced for many generations. From them other Faer learned to see strength and substance in those around them and began to follow the example set before them by the family that loved beyond the bounds of race
