The Nat. Park Service, is responsible for establishing standards for and advising Fed. agencies on the preservation of historic prop. listed or eligible for listing in the Nat. Reg. of Historic Places. These standards have been developed to guide work undertaken on historic buildings. There are separate standards for acquisition, protection, stabilization, preservation, rehabilitation, restoration, and reconstruction. Chapters: bldg. exterior: masonry, wood, architectural metals, roofs, windows, entrances and porches and storefronts; building interior: structural systems, interior spaces, features, and finishes, and mechanical systems; building site; dist./neighborhood; health and safety code requirements; energy retrofitting; and new addition to buildings.
