“Spokane Adventures” is the fifth book of our NW series. For the first time we travel east of the mountains to explore the historical city of Spokane. Evan, a reluctant koala, is asked to give a tour of the city to a new skunk in town. A group of Evan’s school friends join in the excitement as they visit parks, museums and even find fun places to eat. Along with a lesson on the history of this great city, a message of acceptance and inclusion is realized by all. Enjoy!
The book is a memoir about my life; thus, I am qualified. I lived in Shanghais International Settlement and French Concession, protected by foreign troops and warships, from 1926 to 1940, then in Cuba195355; Venezuela, 195559; finally Guatemala, 196570, the years of my memoir. Today, at age eighty-seven, I live with my wife in a retirement community, Rockwood Forest Estates, in Spokane, Washington State. Its a nonfiction memoir, Expatriate Adventure. It tells of my life in Shanghai from age two to fifteen, 192640, in the French Concession and International Settlement, eventually surrounded by Japanese armies who had driven out Chinese troops from the area surrounding these foreign jurisdictions in the Sino-Japanese war beginning in 1937, ending with the defeat of Japan in World War II. Later, married and with a growing family, we lived as expatriates in Latin America, beginning as a trainee in Havana, 1953; then assistant manager in Caracas, Venezuela; then regional manager in Guatemala City, for eight countries. These assignments were not consecutive, being interrupted by assignments in New York, not described because its not expatriate living and therefore outside the theme of this memoir.

This is the true story of the 1928 Wohelo camp experience of fourteen-year-old Emily Sophian (19131994) of Kansas City, Missouri. The story is told in part through letters to her parents, Dr. and Mrs. Abraham Sophian, and to her schoolteachers, Mre Emmanuel and Mre Irene of the Roman Catholic Notre Dame de Sion School in Kansas City. Luther and Charlotte Gulick founded Wohelo in 1907 as the first American summer camp dedicated exclusively to girls. Both founders came from American Protestant missionary families. Clad in middy, bloomers, over-the-knee stockings, and tennis shoes, Emily chronicled with compassion and insight her struggles, triumphs, and observations of camp life on the shores of Sebago Lake in the backwoods of Maine.
This region offers many opportunities for the adventurous traveller, and this book aims to list the best of them. It is part of a series focusing on outdoor activities such as hiking, biking, rock climbing, horseback riding, downhill skiing, parasailing, backpacking, waterskiing and scuba diving.
