Excerpt from Somerset County Historical Quarterly, 1914, Vol. 3 Portsmouth, Monday morning, 19th May, 1800 - The court is to open to-day; but as the clerk has not come in, I cannot say how much business we shall have to go through. In this district the business in the legal line generally has not been much; but it is said to be more at present than at any former period. It is probable, however, that the court will not continue longer than this week; and therefore I hope on Monday next to shape my course homewards.
