First Families of Tennessee is a tribute to these men and women who established the state.
Samuel Wear (ca.1753-1817) served in the Revolutionary War, and married Mary Thompson in 1779 and Mary Gilliland about 1799. Ancestry was probably Scotch-Irish. He was one of the first settlers in Sevier County, Tennessee, and the book traces the Wear family connections to other early east Tennessee families. Descendants and relatives lived in Tennessee, Missouri, Arkansas, Texas and elsewhere.
Teeter Nave , son of Conrad Nave and Anna Ott, was born in about 1745, probably in Pennsylvania. He married Ann Vanderpool, daughter of Abraham Vanderpool and Rebecca Isaacs, in about 1768 in Rowan County, North Carolina. They had seven children. He died in 1805 in Carter County, Tennessee. Descendants and relatives lived mainly in North Carolina, Tennessee and Indiana.
The earliest known ancestor, John Beales, was born in England in 1650, and immigrated to America in 1675 settling in Salem, New Jersey. He came on the ship Griffin. Two years later in 1677 his name appears on the tax books of what is now Delaware Co., Pennsylvania, as a farmer. He died in East Nottingham, Maryland in 1726.
