Marie Sandvik loved to preach, even as a child in Norway where she preached to sheep and imaginary people. In 1919, at the age of seventeen, she came to America to get an education, and worked her way through high school, college, and seminary. Her struggle against extreme poverty created in her a compassionate heart, and she vowed that someday she would help those who were penniless as she had been. In 1940, she converted a vacant skid row bar into a mission, moved in behind it, and ran it to help the poor, the homeless, and the hungry, and to bring God's word and love to them all. Four years later Marie was joined by Doris Nye, a young college graduate who was skilled in music and business administration. As a child, Doris daydreamed about growing up to help the poor. She learned compassion for those who were less fortunate as she accompanied her two aunts, who were medical doctors, on their rounds. Doris planned to become a missionary after she graduated from college, but circumstances put her in touch with Marie at the skid row mission. Doris quickly discovered that her calling was to work with Marie. The two women stayed together for the rest of Marie's life, and their work eventually received national acclaim.
“Dr. Don Hattaway, successful pastor and biblical scholar, has faithfully communicated God’s Word with clarity and conviction, first from the pulpit and now from the pen. His heart, mind, and spirit are powerfully inscribed on every page of the volume you hold in your hands. Every Christian needs to study this commentary carefully in order to live victoriously today and to be better equipped to help our faltering culture know what’s next on God’s time clock.”—Dr. Gerald Harris, former editor of the Christian Index, the nation’s oldest continuously published religious newspaper “Pastor Hattaway has given us a book on the Revelation that is biblically sound and scholarly. He writes not only from the viewpoint of a careful Bible student but with the clarity and practicality of a faithful pastor.”—Dr. Jerry Vines, Pastor Emeritus, First Baptist Church, Jacksonville, Florida; 2-time president, Southern Baptist Convention “With the insight of a seasoned pastor, the understanding of a scholar, and the skill of an expositor, Dr. Hattaway’s diligent preparation of this volume has created an outstanding resource for pastors, Bible teachers, and other students of the Word of God. For everyone who seeks clarity in reading Revelation, I highly recommend this book. My understanding of Revelation has been deepened. I am confident you will be equally blessed.”—Dr. J. Robert White, former executive director of the Georgia Baptist Mission Board
I am using the title to picture my double job as pastor of the Highland Park Baptist Church and president (now chancellor) of Tennessee Temple Schools of Chattanooga. I became pastor of the Highland Park Baptist Church in 1942. Tennessee Temple Schools were founded under my leadership in 1946. I have written this book to give again my testimony of my blessed Lord. - Back cover.
Life After Death takes an in-depth look at the important issues surrounding death. Does it matter what we believe? Why do we avoid talking about it? Can we confidently assume there is life after death? This book presents the Christian view of death and what lies beyond. It doesn't avoid the difficult questions of judgment and the possibility of missing out on all that God has planned for his people. However, for those who are searching for a real relationship with the living God, Life After Death presents a glorious message of hope and certainty. You don't have to go through life with any doubt about the future. On the contrary, if you are willing to accept all that God offers, on his terms, you will be able to look forward to an endless future in which you will experience all that God, in his infinite love and wisdom, has planned for you. You will also find a hope that will transform your goals, values, and understanding of every part of this present life.
The Year of the Rapture, a trilogy of fantasy, fiction and fact is . . . UNIQUE ! The fantasy section of "The Year of the Rapture," begins as the author takes an imaginary journey into heaven via a dream as a boy of eight. While there he morphs into an adult and finds himself viewing a strange scene on earth. Though curiosity and creativity are rampant throughout, the integrity of the scripture is maintained. COMPELLING ! The fiction portion of The Year of the Rapture reveals a town full of young adults, (headies) seeking a secular experience to satisfy their search for reality. Their reverie is hijacked by a few Christians whose reality wins! The story builds and explodes with three shocking events that lead to a dynamic conclusion, leaving the reader astonished and incredulous. INSIGHTFUL ! Fact, "The future is now," is a popular twenty first century phrase and could be a Biblical reality anytime. "Perhaps today," is another statement regarding the imminent return of the Lord Jesus. Being ready for that occasion is urged by God in scripture. Therefore, regarding the Rapture, a constant NOW is presented in the Bible and by the author. Dave Allan has had an inveterate career of ministry experience. His credentials as a director includes three organizations, seven youth enterprises, multiple church ministries, numerous missionary junkets abroad and two Christian college positions. He is a speaker, author, strategist, instigator, organizer and practical Biblicist. Special thanks to Val Lanade for his imagination, creativity and inspiration. His personality is transparent and his enthusiasm is infectious.
