He married Julia Ann Mills, daughter of Henry Mills and Hannah Woodward, in 1849 in Morgan County, Indiana. They had five children. He died in Denair, California. Ancestors, descendants and relatives lived mainly in Massachusetts, North Carolina, Tennessee, Indiana, California and Oregon.
