Our modern patterns of thinking and learning are all based on observing a world of 'things', which we think of as separate building blocks. This worldview allows us to count and measure objects without their having any innate value; it provides neat definitions and a sense of control over life. However, this approach also sets humans apart from each other, and from nature. In reality, in nature, everything is connected in a fluid, dynamic way. 'Separateness' is an illusion we have created -- and is fast becoming a dangerous delusion infecting how we relate to business, politi, and other key areas of our daily reality.Giles Hutchins argues that the source of our current social, economic and environmental issues springs from the misguided way we see and construct our world. With its roots in ancient wisdom, this insightful book sets out an accesssible, easy to follow exploration of the causes of our current crises, offering ways to rectify these issues at source and then pointing to a way ahead.

“The uncanny beauty of Van Booy’s prose, and his ability to knife straight to the depths of a character’s heart, fill a reader with wonder.” — San Francisco Chronicle Award-winning author Simon Van Booy tells a harrowing and enchanting story of how one man’s act of mercy during World War II changed the lives of strangers, and how they each discover the astonishing truth of their connection. The characters in Van Booy's The Illusion of Separateness discover at their darkest moments of fear and isolation that they are not alone, that they were never alone, that every human being is a link in a chain we cannot see. This gripping novel—inspired by true events—tells the interwoven stories of a deformed German infantryman; a lonely British film director; a young, blind museum curator; two Jewish American newlyweds separated by war; and a caretaker at a retirement home for actors in Santa Monica. They move through the same world but fail to perceive their connections until, through seemingly random acts of selflessness, a veil is lifted to reveal the vital parts they have played in one another's lives, and the illusion of their separateness.
Have you ever questioned why you exist in this specific moment? We wake up, go through our daily routines – the job, the relationships, the memories. We identify with this "self" in the mirror – the one who grew up, interacted, and built a life. But what if that's just a layer, a character we play in the grand drama of existence? This book, The Illusion of Separation: Unveiling the Unified Mind, shatters the comfortable lie. You are not your job, your relationships, or even your thoughts. These are mere costumes draped over a far grander being – the ever-present awareness that has been here since the dawn of time. Awareness arises spontaneously, not caused by anything external. It precedes even the concept of a void, which itself is a product of awareness. The Unified Mind, this boundless essence, actively constructs the appearances we call reality. Our thoughts and experiences are a response to this ever-changing, spontaneous arising of the Unified Mind's manifestation. The illusion lies in the perception of countless separate selves. These are simply the response and interaction with the Unified Mind's manifestations, not independent entities. Ultimately, there exists a single, universal mind experiencing itself through these appearances. This is your true, eternal nature, never born and never dying. Liberation from the illusion of separation comes through identifying with the underlying universal mind that you truly are. Imagine a jolt of awakening – realizing the "you" in the mirror is just a fleeting reflection, while the real you is one with the unified mind of existence. There's no switch to turn consciousness off, no true death for the limitless awareness at your core. Are you ready to shed the mask and sink into the boundless essence of who you truly are? This book is your guide to uncovering the real you and experiencing the liberation of non-duality. Amazon description : Do you ever feel like there's more to you than meets the eye? Our contact with the world is through perception, and therefore the study of the process is of obvious importance and signi?cance. For much of its long history, the study of perception has been con?ned to natural- tic observation. Nonetheless, the phenomena considered worthy of note have not been those that nurture our survival—the veridical features of perception—but the oddities or departures from the common and c- monplace accuracies of perception. With the move from the natural world to the laboratory the oddities of perception multiplied, and they received ever more detailed scrutiny. My general intention is to examine the interpretations of the perc- tual process and its errors throughout history. The emphasis on errors of perception might appear to be a narrow approach, but in fact it enc- passes virtually all perceptual research from the ancients until the present. The constancies of perception have been taken for granted whereas - partures from constancies (errors or illusions) have fostered fascination.
