The book is devoted to the discussion of modern aspects of the theory of hadronic matter under extreme conditions. It consists of 12 selected contributions to the second international workshop on this topic held in fall 2019 at JINR Dubna, Russia. Of particular value are the contributions to lattice gauge theory studies attacking the problem of simulating QCD at finite baryon densities, one of the major challenges at the present time in this field. Another unique aspect is provided by the discussion of puzzling effects that appear in the poduction of hadrons in nuclear collisions, like the horn in the K+/pi+ ratio, which are subject to hydrodynamic and reaction-kinetic modeling of these nonequilibrium phenomena.
This proceedings volume discusses recent developments in the physics of strongly interacting systems, with emphasis on matter under extreme conditions that are possibly encountered in astrophysical phenomena and relativistic heavy-ion collisions.

The purpose of the School and Workshop was to study recent topics in QCD and hadron physics from various points of view. The subjects included perturbative and nonperturbative aspects of QCD, chiral effective theory in hadron physics and high temperature and density nuclear matter physics.Another purpose was to enhance communications and collaborations among researchers in the Asia and Oceania region.
Launched in 2004, "Nuclear Physics in Astrophysics" has established itself in a successful topical conference series addressing the forefront of research in the field. At the Second International A D Sakharov Conference on Physics, more than 200 physicists from many countries gathered together to celebrate what would have been the 75th birthday of the distinguished physicist and world figure Andrei Sakharov. This tradition had begun five years earlier, soon after his death.The conference was unique: it brought together leading scientists working in seemingly different fields, which were nevertheless among Sakharov's interests.
