His father, who was a Mason, died in 1841 (at the age of 41) and the family remained in precarious circumstances for years. His mother died in 1895, at the age of ninety. Moody received his first spiritual influences in the unitary church of his locality, being his first task to get students for the Sunday school, which he attended.
