Scumbags is a crime thriller and drama with an underlying romantic subplot about four teenagers in a small working-class city where only the strongest, smartest, and sometimes dirtiest survive. Two of the four boys are brothers, while all four of them have suffered less-than-ideal circumstances on the home front. The four Scumbags, as they come to be called, do any and everything necessary to survive. One night, the four lifelong friends attempt to carjack a drunken stranger to help advance their small-time marijuana business. When the stranger decides to try his luck, he is accidentally shot. The boys flee in the stolen car but end up in a terrible car accident, where the driver, who happened to have planned the crime himself, ends up stuck in the wreckage. He tells the others to run and to save themselves, as the police sirens in the distance are rapidly approaching. They reluctantly do as he wishes and leave him to the police. He is sentenced to four years for aggravated assault and grand theft auto. In his absence, the remaining Scumbags take their criminal activities to the next level, swapping out their marijuana for heroin. They also involve themselves in a kidnapping and extortion ring, where they target rich and powerful men with dirty and dark secrets. They use the secrets, along with the kidnapping of their target's child or children, to extort large sums of money and make sure they stay silent. Once their fourth member is released at the age of eighteen, he is quickly thrown into the fire with both of their new business dealings. They pick a rich and powerful man for their last target. By then, they'll have earned enough money to gracefully bow out of the streets for good and turn to legitimate ways of earning income. Their target has other plans than to concede to them and has his men prepare for war, while the leader of the Scumbags unwillingly falls in love with their target's daughter, who happens to be their hostage. The two form a bond that is undeniable and causes them to question everything they know about themselves. The drama reaches its boiling point during the hostage and money exchanges when an old jailhouse beef resurfaces and causes the death toll the quickly rise. In the end, there are only two survivors. The two young lovebirds must quickly decide what they will choose to do with their suddenly at-risk lives. Do they part ways and listen to their brains, or do they run off together, following their hearts to wherever that may take them? There is a sequel to Scumbags, titled "Scumbags 2 LIAR (Loyalty Isn't Always Real)" that I have written, and it needs only to be edited for the final draft if there should be interest in one.

You hear all kinds of stories in a bar. All kinds of characters with all kinds of experiences. Booze is a mighty fuel. It brings out the best in some and the worst in every one else. If you post up on a barstool long enough, you might hear someone’s entire life story, whether you asked for it or not. If that barstool happens to be plugged into the wood at the Knowlton Tavern, then the story you would be hearing might belong to James ‘Feb’ February. Only at a dive bar full of the most desperate, strange societal castaways could an individual such as him share a story like his. As a former cop, convict, drug dealer, drug addict, an army veteran, a once loving father and husband, and recently homeless, Feb has a lot of stories. Upon the insistence of the bartender, Sofia, he revisits his earliest memories: A latchkey kid with a prostitute mother in a destitute neighbourhood. Seeing little future in education and wanting better, Feb becomes an errand boy for the D’Antonio crime family. Though young, and an outsider, he is able to climb the ranks with the help of his friend Mario, until a botched train robbery changes everything. The mob holds him responsible. His punishment is swift. Feb is allowed to live, but is sent to war with a false identity in the place of a made-man’s son. At 17 years old, he is consumed by one thought: revenge. It does not go away. It does not subside. While recounting his tale, decades later, the first moment for vengeance presents itself. A chance to right one of the countless wrongs in his life and cross out one of the many names on his list. Is it possible to feel closure in a life that one has never felt in control of, ever? Feb swears that he is committed to changing for the better. His decisions and actions will demonstrate how far he has evolved. Is a rehabbing scumbag allowed to relapse? Can he recover if he slips just one time or will it open the floodgates?

Ft. Benning and the Infantry School produced thousands of officers for the Vietnam War as it did in World War II and the Korean War. Scumbag, the Making of an American Officer recounts the experiences of John Oreskovich in Ft. Benning¿s Infantry Officer Candidate School Class 4-72. This class, which graduated 12 July 1972, sent 126 commissioned officers into the United States Army. He would later return to Ft. Benning to go through Airborne School, after attending Air Defense Officer training at Ft. Bliss. This book recounts those days of intense preparatory training, written with a touch of humor and sometimes distain for what was endured: the countless push-ups, running everywhere for six months in combat boots, and the attention to detail piled on by the ever-present tactical officers. Attention to detail was a course in verbal harassment applied by the TACS of 51st Company: ¿hey you, Scumbag¿ or ¿you Scumbag¿¿
