The volume presents the interventions of the speakers and the posters of the professors of Sapienza University of Rome as evidence of the results achieved in international cooperation with a special emphasis on capacity building actions in the main geographical areas identified as: Africa, Mena countries and Latin America and Asia. The materials were presented at the University Conference “Sapienza in International Development: Strategies, Projects, Initiatives” held in Rome, at the Aula Magna of Sapienza University of Rome, on 11 December 2018 and organized with the collaboration of the Roma Sapienza Foundation. The volume also presents in its introductory part a moment of reflection on the geographical areas of cooperation of greatest interest and strategic for Sapienza.
This publication describes the activities and initiatives implemented by the elearning Academy in 2021. 2021 was an exceptionally productive and successful year with over 700 000 learners throughout the world, more than 90 FAO multilingual elearning courses published, in collaboration with over 300 partners worldwide. The year marked the second edition of the 24-hour Digital Global Marathon for Sustainability jointly organized by the FAO elearning Academy and the Future Food Institute, which brought together more than 160 expert voices, in 30 main work sessions, in English, French, Italian and Spanish. It gathered more than 150?000 views worldwide, and garnered coverage from over 100 online journals, TV channels, and networks. The FAO elearning Academy organized a series of successful international technical webinars in 2021. This year, the FAO elearning Academy was very dynamic in its outreach strategy, with over 600 communication products disseminated through various media and channels, including videos, TV interviews, press releases, articles, newsletters and publications.
Events of the past twenty years, including the Cold War and the War on Terror, have meant that the environments of international development co-operation have changed extensively, with dramatic consequences for development policies and North-South relations in general. Perspectives on European Development Cooperation takes stock of such changes, describing and analyzing the new European development agenda, including the role of the European Union. Essays by prominent authorities in the field examine the development policies of individual donor countries and focus on the principles and objectives governing aid strategies and the performances of these policies. This book will be of interest to students of development studies and those involved in determining development policy.

The Proceedings of the International Conference on “Historical-Cultural Theory: studies and research” are published in this volume. They are representative of different prestigious universities: Moscow State University for Psychology and Education; University of Sevilla, Spain; La Habana, Cuba; University of Florence, Italy; Sapienza, University of Rome; University of Arcavacata di Rende (CS), followers of the Historical-cultural trend in Psychology and/or the Activity Theory Approach - by L.S.Vygotskij, A.R. Lurija, A.N.Leont’ev, V.V.Davydov, V.V.Rubtzov. They are actually involved in research expanding a multicultural approach to psycho-pedagogical development and learning. Main purpose: revisit the Historical-cultural and Activity Approaches to face the XXI century’s new educational and instructional needs. Consequently, the issues present further developments of the psycho-pedagogical approaches in different countries in the frame of internationalization and joint cooperation.
This book describes the approach adopted by the Italian Development Cooperation when facing with the interrelated problems of sustainable development, poverty alleviation and conservation of biodiversity. In this respect Soqotra Archipelago (Yemen), declared UNESCO World heritage site in 2008, represents a valuable laboratory to test this approach which is based on a holistic vision of socio-economic and environmental issues, is focused on increasing the capacity of local Institutions of planning and managing development and conservation, and requires the involvement of local stakeholders throughout the project implementation. In particular, a systemic planning tool integrating analyses and activities conducted in the relevant sectors of intervention (marine biology and fishery, plant and animal ecology, water management, socio-economic and infrastructure development) is presented.
The Scientific Society Ludovico Quaroni was founded in Rome in 2010 as a tribute to Ludovico Quaroni, the Italian Master of Urban Architecture. Its purpose is “the study of the contemporary and historical city and architecture; the study of the design and theoretical works of the leading architects and scholars of architecture, the city and the territory”. To achieve these goals, the Scientific Society Ludovico Quaroni has founded the present electronic review, “L’architettura delle città – The Journal of the Scientific Society Ludovico Quaroni”. The title is a reminder of Ludovico Quaroni’s earliest book entitled L’architettura delle città (Ed. Sansaini, Rome 1939).
More than 900 million people currently live in urban slums and the number is growing as rapid urbanization continues in the developing world. A Home in the City urges countries to strengthen their focus on the growing urban crisis and improving the lives of slum dwellers. Proposed are specific investments and policy changes required at local and national levels to create a vibrant, equitable and productive urban environment. It underscores the need for close strategic partnerships between local authorities and organizations of the urban poor for slum upgrading and improved urban management. From adopting citywide strategies and establishing adequate and affordable infrastructure and services, to building effective public transport and constructing low-income housing, it offers valuable methods to prevent future slum formation and to improve the lives of at least 100 million slum dwellers by 2020.
