Salt River Christian Church was organized about 1844 in Wilson Township along County Road #243. The cemetery adjoining the church was established the same year. This survey of the headstones in the cemetery was done between June and September 1992.

John Gant was born in about 1713 in Virginia. His father was John Gent. He married in about 1732 and had five sons. He died in about 1783. Ancestors, descendants and relatives lived in Virginia, North Carolina, Texas, Tennessee, South Carolina, Kentucky, Indiana, Alabama, Mississippi and elsewhere.

William Morgan Jesse, son of John Jesse, was born 2 Sep. 1798, in Cumberland County, Virginia. He married Mary Ann "Polly" Parker on 6 Jan. 1820, in Cumberland County. There followed sixteen children.. He died 13 Aug. 1857, in Mexico, Audrain County, Missouri.
