Serving the remote rural consumers of the emerging economies like India have always been a challenge for marketers. Similarly, researchers have often found that the conventional tools used in the urban areas are not easily adaptable to the rural context. Growing importance of the emerging markets in general and their rural segment requires marketers and researchers to use innovative research tools that would help them to understand the rural markets in an effective manner. Rapid Rural Appraisal (RRA) is one such tool that can help the marketers in such endeavours. This tool has evolved over time and has recently attracted the attention of rural market researchers. This tool, until now, has largely been used by the non-profit sector to study the needs of the beneficiaries' and to explore non-explicit barriers to social projects'. In this paper we report how this tool was adopted to study a traditional periodic rural markets - Haats. Then we briefly discus how the findings of such studies may help marketers to develop appropriate marketing strategies to efficiently reach the rural consumers.

This book consists of a series of papers that look at three different aspects of the landscape as seen in dictionaries from across Europe. Multilingual diachronic case studies into lexicographical descriptions of flora, landscape features and colours concentrate on three supposedly simple words: daisies (Bellis perenis L.), hills and the colour red. The work is part of the ongoing LandLex initiative, originally developed as part of the COST ENeL - European Network for e-Lexicography - action. The group brings together researchers in lexicography and lexicology from across Europe and is dedicated to studying multilingual and diachronic issues in language. It aims to valorise the wealth of European language diversity as found in dictionaries by developing and testing new digital annotation tools and a historical morphological dictionary prototype. Funded by the Horizon 2020 Framework Programme of the European Union

Archaeological research has long focused on studying tangible artifacts to build a picture of the cultures it examines. Equally important to understanding a culture, however, are the intangible elements that become part of its heritage. In 2003, UNESCO adopted a convention specifically to protect intangible heritage, including the following: oral traditions and expressions, including language; performing arts (such as traditional music, dance, and theater); social practices, rituals, and festive events; knowledge and practices concerning nature and the universe; and traditional craftsmanship. Since this convention was adopted, scholars and preservationists have struggled with how to best approach intangible heritage. This volume specifically focuses on embodied intangible heritage, or the human body as a vehicle for memory, movement, and sound. The contributors to this work examine ritual and artistic movement, theater, music, oral literature, as well as the role of the internet in cultural transmission. Globalization and particularly the internet, has a complex effect on the transmission of intangible heritage: while music, dance, and other expressions are now shared easily, the performances often lack context and may be shared with a group that does not fully understand what they are seeing or hearing. This volume draws on case studies from around the world to examine the problems and possibilities of implementing the new UNESCO convention. The findings in this volume will be vital to both professionals and academics in anthropology, archaeology, history, museum studies, architecture, and anyone else who deals with issues of cultural heritage and preservation.
