Kent Greenawalt's From the Bottom Up constitutes a collection of articles and essays written over the last five decades of his career. They cover a wide range of topics, many of which address ties between political and moral philosophy and what the law does and should provide. A broad general theme is that in all these domains, what really is the wisest approach to difficult circumstances often depends on the particular issues involved and their context. Both judges and scholars too often rely on abstract general formulations to provide answers. A notable example in political philosophy was the suggestion of the great and careful scholar, John Rawls, that laws should be based exclusively on public reason. The essays explain that given uncertainty of what people perceive as the line between public reason and their religion convictions, the inability of public reason to resolve some difficulty questions, such as what we owe to higher animals, and the feeling of many that their religious understanding should count, urging exclusive reliance on public reason is not a viable approach. Other essays show similar problems with asserted bases for legal interpretations and the content of provisions such as the First Amendment.
A safety manual and accident prevention program are the foundation of a safety program but they do not complete it. A complete safety program includes the policies herein in addition to training classes, safety committees and meetings, medical examinations, organized employment and injury reports, safety bulletin boards, management communications, environmental policies, proper maintenance of equipment, observation of processes and procedures for on-site and remote sites operations, safety inspections and such other practices. The most important component, however, is for the employer and employee to share an attitude of safety.

It's a unique experience of embracing stillness and offers the space to reconnect and reflect, often leading to incredible moments of self-discovery and awareness that make a retreat a retreat. This journal makes planning your time a breeze and self-reflection approachable with the help of guided prompts, to-do lists, and reflections. Foreword by Avigdor Kahalani This book was written out of boundless love for our country, the State of Israel, and shines a spotlight on life in the Land of Israel. There isn’t a single person among us with his head screwed on who isn’t concerned for the future of our existence here. The developments in the region around us keep us awake at night. Our state depends on those citizens who bear the burden, but even those who do not carry the proverbial stretcher on their shoulders have to find a place underneath it. Every citizen of Israel and the diaspora must play a role in keeping the country safe, respecting our differences and each other’s values. Amir Avivi is part of Israel’s beautiful vista and I consider him a symbol of love for our homeland. He has taken on an extremely difficult task: to lead a movement that voices concern for our country’s future and, at the same time, work to deepen citizens’ confidence and faith in our abilities and power. Only someone with such deep roots, and so full of love, can express such concerns about the future while articulating a sweeping, meaningful vision. This book guides us with tremendous skill through scenarios that might seem farfetched and at times downright fantastical. But this reality check is supremely important, because these possible future scenarios—scenarios that are scarcely imaginable—pose a concrete threat to our existence here in Israel. The vision that this book articulates is based on a clear-eyed view of the reality unfolding in front of our eyes in the Middle East. Let’s open our eyes together, start reading, get into the weeds, and prepare for our common future here—lest we become yet another nation that failed to safeguard its land and historical heritage. The State of Israel has been blessed with sons and daughters who have proudly passed on the Zionist torch from generation to generation. It’s our job to make sure that legacy keeps getting handed down.
