This report is an annual publication based upon data from the Reserve Components Common Personnel Data System (RCCPDS). This report consists of statistical charts and graphs providing summary information on the strength of the reserve components. Selected charts and graphs also provide data on strength and attribute trends of the Selected Reserve and the Individual Ready Reserve/Inactive National Guard.
Selected Manpower Statistics is published by the Office of the Secretary of Defense, Washingron Headquarters Services. The report provides basic workforce data on active duty military, civilian, retired and reserve military personnel of the Department of Defense.
The SMS provides basic manpower data on active duty military, civilian, reserve components, and retired military personnel of the Department of Defense. It is divided into the following sections: I - Total Department of Defense Personnel; II - Active Duty Military Personnel; III - Civilian Personnel; IV - Reserve Personnel; V - Other Personnel. Each section has a short narrative with a general description and selected highlights, displaying increases/decreases from the prior fiscal year and trends. The focus of this publication is on summary data for the Department of Defense as a whole, many tables also provide data for the Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, and other components of DoD. With a few exceptions, as noted on applicable tables, this issue contains data either for or through the Fiscal Year. The Military Manpower Training Report (MMTR) describes the student loads requested in the President's Budget for each category of individual institutional training for each active and reserve component of the Armed Forces. The FY 1997 Military Manpower Training Report specifically describes the Department of Defense requirement for military student training loads for each component, active and reserve, of each Service for Fiscal Years 1996 and 1997. Data elements for this report are compiled and submitted by the Services. Many calculations in this report are affected by rounding. All funding displayed in this report is in then-year dollars.
