Excerpt from Research on Forest and Range Soils in Oregon and Washington: A Bibliography With Abstracts From 1975 Through 1979 Beginning in 1914 and extending through 1979, nearly 700 soil science publications have reported or discussed new information related to the management of Pacific Northwest forest and range lands. Most of this literature has appeared since World War II, when natural resource management research was substantially increased. The forest soils research community, although small, has contributed forcefully and constructively to forest resource management in the Pacific Northwest. New knowledge, generated from research by public and private organizations, has been a key factor in widening sensitivity for the health of the soil-water-vegetation system.
